Growing

I'm loving this more and more the taller it gets.  This is three days of knitting.  (The rounds are longer than you'd expect.  Those cables are rather big and draw in the knitting a fair bit, meaning you need more stitches than you'd think to wrap comfortably around your head).  I'm absolutely itching to have it done and have already hatched plans for a set of mitts to match. But I do feel like I need to mention something.  Come here.  Right up close.  This is important.  Listen carefully.  Please do not get in touch with me and express your [...]

Non-linear

If I were feeling oppressed by the tyranny of a linear chronology, I would show you some of the things I worked on at the retreat.  But I'm really really not.  I am, instead, feeling incredibly distracted by the shininess of the new.  So I'm showing you the hat I cast on Sunday night. That's one side, and the other side looks like this. I truly have not decided which is the outside and which the inside (and since it is The Boy's hat, I suppose he gets to make that determination for himself).  So while it's not reversible in [...]

Almost There

The yellow socks are almost done.  Very very close to done.  I just need to remember all the clever stuff I did on the toe of the first one and manage to write it down and do it again, and they'll be all set. Which is good, because the fingering weight ones that Katie has been graciously working on for me are not only finished and in the mail, but have arrived here in sunny (cough) Cleveland.  As soon as they're all done and blocked, I'll get a picture of both styles on some fake feet and show you what [...]

Entranced

I swear it was supposed to be a swatch.  A quick, simple little swatch to see if I liked the way that stitch and that yarn played together.  Turns out, I do. So now the swatch is just about to reach cowl length (though admitedly, I like the sort of cowls that are just short scarves held on with a button...feels more efficient than making a giant scarf and just leaving it dangling in the breeze).  And I have plans for a hat to match.  And I may possibly have ordered one more skein from the UK (all I can [...]

Nudge

I find myself completely unmotivated.  I have 30 rows and a toe until I'm done with the second sock of the pair.  That's two good stretches of knitting.  It should be easy as pie.  But I apparently do not want pie. Instead, all I want to do is swatch.  I've got a bundle of yarns for the next book (Yes, the one after KCC3.  Yes, the one that won't be out till the end of next year at the earliest.  Yes, they really do take that long), and I've got a pile of new yarns from the trip, and all [...]

Shocking, I’m Sure

Bright and early Monday morning, I have to roll myself out the door and off to the airport (more details on that Monday).  I'll be gone for a while, and there are a whole host of things I really should be doing right this very moment to make sure that trip goes smoothly. But instead of doing those things, I found myself sorting out what travel knitting I'd take.  I know, brilliant use of my time, right?  Especially the part where I said 'well, this sock is almost done, if I just finish it up that will make it much [...]

According to Plan

This is going awfully well.  Awfully well indeed.  I have a sneaking suspicion this yarn (Chubbie, by Vice) is going to become one of my favorite fat sock yarns.  This is especially good news, since the sad closing of Schaefer Yarns has meant that my beloved Nichole is going to become harder and harder to find.  The discovery of Chubbie will totally help console me. I'm unreasonably taken with the heel flap on this one, it was rather a lot of fun to knit (I do need to figure out just how to reverse one part of it for the [...]

Envy

About a zillion years ago, I got to know Lizzy on Ravelry.  She tested some of my earliest patterns, then she knit some samples for KCC1, and now she's gone and done that thing that so many of us yarn types have a secret hankering to do somewhere deep inside.  She's started a yarn company.  And of course, it's fabulous yarn.  And of course, I sweet talked her into letting me play with it for KCC2. Just recently, she and I were talking about another little project I have kicking around in my head.  A few days later, yarn showed [...]

Now With Less Drama

Hi pinterest folks, if you're looking for this pattern, it's called Brigand and it's available in Ne'er-Do-Well Knits on ravelry! Yesterday's escapades didn't really show off the work to its best advantage.  The picture of Millie--lost over the fence, pitched into the snow--has its charms, but it doesn't do much for the knitting.  So, just for clarity, I'll offer here a somewhat more detailed look at the stitches. You'll note that Millie is nowhere near the fence.  You may also notice that this is post-rinse (not quite a full on proper blocking, but just a bit of a rinse and [...]
