Scandalous

I told you it was instant gratification! That's two knitting sessions and two skeins of very very very big yarn transformed into a very respectable hat with a delightfully deep brim. You really can't ask for more than that. Now, I am slightly cheating by using one of my earlier patterns (it's Semblance, and it's not currently available, but if enough folks want it I could probably take some pictures and bring it back) rather than coming up with something new. But really, that doesn't seem like terribly scandalous in the grand scheme of things.

Cranked

I cannot even begin to explain how fast and satisfying this is. This, which is about seven inches of knitting (with the brim unfolded) is what I cranked out in one afternoon of knitting. And really, I could probably have finished it in a day, but my elbow would not appreciate that, and it was getting dark, so I exercised a bit of restraint. But still...that's more than half a hat in an afternoon. That's delightfully quick.

Requisite amount

This is absolutely providing the requisite amount of instant gratification. It's a hat. A hat for my giant head. And it's only 60 stitches around, for the yarn is just that delightfully thick and smushy. It's Martin's Lab Big Singles in Glitter, and it's delightful. And yes, I will need two skeins of it to get through the whole hat (it's like 77 yards per 100 grams). But it is also only going to take me like two days to knit, so that seems more than fair.

So many mitts

So, I try really hard to keep the blog (and instagram...and twitter...and ravelry...and even, in theory, pinterest) up to date, but sometimes that just doesn't happen.  It seems to go in phases, and just lately I've been chattier over on instagram (I think it' something about the 8 zillion little heart notifications and the never ending scrolling wall of pretty...that's totally not an accident, it's pretty much designed to reel you in and steal your attention for hours on end).  And that means I've been scandalously remiss and haven't show off the mitts in a while. They zipped along in [...]

Correlation

So there's reversible as in 'yup, it's more or less the same on both sides.'  And then there's reversible as in 'wait...those are both gorgeous...and totally different...and what do you mean I have to pick a favorite?' And this?  This is that second kind of reversible! It's called Correlation, it's out today on ravelry, and you can get 10% off with the code REVERSIBLE for the first few days it's out. And I really think the hardest part will be deciding which side you like best.  Because knitting reversible cables isn't any harder than knitting regular cables! No really, I promise.  [...]

Look I just have a weakness for sets ok…

Yeah yeah, in what will be a surprise to absolutely no one who knows me at all, there are about to be mitts to match the hat. Because I can, that's why. And because having sets of knitted things is about as close as I come to having anything you'd consider opinions about fashion. The only real question I have is 'is there going to be enough yarn (and enough patience) for a cowl after this?'  Because I think there's a tiny chance the answer to both is yes...

Just about done

Home stretch... The decreases on this are fun. You work them inside the cables (like on Imply and Welter) and it's just a really neat trick to have in your knitting tool kit.  It keeps the lines of the cables zipping along perfectly. Plus you'll feel super clever when you do it.  Which is a not insubstantial part of my motivation for knitting anything! Pattern Tuesday, at which point you'll see just how pretty the top of this one really is!

Playing favorites

I resolutely decline to pick a favorite side. They're both nifty in their own way. And I love how different they look from each other.  Sure stitches that look the same on both sides are cool and all...and useful for all sorts of things. But having one that is lovely and different on each side...that's something grand! Pattern should be out on February 5...you can click the magic doohickey down below to get an email when it comes out if that makes your life easier!   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]
