Instant gratification
Knitting is not generally an instant gratification sort of pursuit. I mean sure, there's the thrill of casting on and the satisfaction of finishing a row or a pattern repeat. But to actually have a finished object, you're generally going to have to put in the time. But every now and then, the right combination of mindless knitting (this about 80% stockinette) and project scope (it's also intended for a child sized person) gets you there awfully quick. Easily distracted
So apparently I can't take direction well (no one is at all surprised). Instead of doing mitts as several of you suggested, I somehow accidentally tripped and fell and cast on a hat. Now the good news is it's a small hat (it's for one of the world's newer people, and new people often have smallish heads). And there will will be yarn left over that I suspect will turn into cuffs (for me, babies don't really need fingerless mitts I don't think) or something else depending on what catches my fancy. Still Fun
The happy yarn barrage (goodies for next year's book) continues unabated. Today's lovelies are from Malabrigo. We've got some Arroyo in Reflecting Pool. And some Twist in Sealing Wax. And yes, for those playing along at home, that is rather thick, and it might not be what you'd expect for socks...that's because it's turning into slippers. Oh and wow are they going to be nice!
Haul
So last time I showed off (just a bit) of the pretty from the trip to Maine. But I know you guys are here more for yarn than for general travel festivities. And don't worry, there was yarn. No really I checked. There was. First up, a bit of Malabrigo. And no, it's not local to Maine, but I strongly prefer to buy Malabrigo in person, and these four were too lovely to pass up! Obliging
I have very obliging friends. When I texted Laura and said 'hey, wanna drive around the sketchier parts of town and take knitting pictures?' she very graciously said 'sure!' instead of summoning the authorities like a reasonable person might. The goal was to get pictures of the stripy malabrigo hats I knit last winter. I wanted some properly grungy backdrops because these will be part of a little collection (another mini book like Rabble Rousers), and I needed a particular ambiance. The Limits of my Love
I love you all dearly, but my porch is currently a giant sheet of ice. That means I'm going to show you the crappy pick I took yesterday (before it thawed and then froze into a death slick) instead of dutifully going out there and taking a better one. Because really, slipper ice skating is not a sport I wish to take up. We'll say it counts as proof that the hat is done, and we'll call a better picture of it something in the 'to do some time soon' category.
