Book Yarn, Part VII

KCC3 is debuting soon (this month, eep!) and I want to take a bit of time during the lead up to show off all the delightful yarns I’ve used in the book.  So without further ado, yarn. These charming bits of yarn are from Dream in Color.  Dream in Color, not surprisingly, does amazing colors.  I swear I've not seen a shade I don't like.  So as you might expect, it finds its way onto my needles often.  There are last year's knitty socks, two other individual socks, a hat, and some socks from the first book.  And well, I [...]

Conjugate

Shall we conjugate the verb snow?  How about weep? Regardless of what mid-April snows do for one's state of mind (or one's sinuses), they do at least provide encouragement for knitting.  The first mitt of the re-knit version of Adumbrate is done. I'm awfully fond of them.  The thumb is unreasonably tidy. Alas this picture doesn't quite show it off in its full glory (Millicent won't bend her thumb in to show it off, but she has a long history of being a troublemaker).  I'll do my best to find a more cooperative model for the proper photos.

Angles

Here is the same mitt from last time, just with its tendency to go all three three-pronged reigned in a bit by a handy glove form. This has actually grown a bit since the picture was taken.  The thumb gusset is finished (and oh my goodness is it tidy, I love how they work on these).  I'll most likely have a finished one to show you early next week.  Next week will also likely see some sort of housekeeping/schedule clarifying post.  I've got scads and scads of things coming up over the next few months (including, you know, new book), [...]

Willful

Knitting is usually pretty accommodating.  It will stretch and bend and drape and generally do what you ask if you ask nicely enough.  But this?  This really wants to be a slightly smushed trefoil, and you aren't going to convince it differently. And you can't really tell from that picture, but it's quite tall.  I'm a fair ways in, and it shows no sign of giving up its claim on this shape. This is the re-knit for Adumbrate (in some of Dream in Color's Everlasting DK in a color I will look up later).  I'm finding them terribly amusing and [...]

Blue

I'm working on some socks.  This, this is not news.  Alas, the plans for these socks are a wee bit in the air at the moment.  The details of their fate need to be secured before I can tell you too much about them.  It's making me twitchy.  I've actually got knitting on the needles, and I want to show it to you, but discretion demands I not...for the moment. And yet, somehow, I'm still talking about the socks.  I'm working with Dream in Color's Everlasting DK (aka the best fat sock yarn in all the land...it's what I used [...]

Smitten

I'm rather taken with these.   I worried at first that the yarn would be too busy for the pattern, but I think it's working out.  The stitch pattern is sort of magical...super stretchy (looks much better once it's on a leg and under a bit more tension), works up quickly, and easy to just read your knitting and see what comes next.  Now...would someone like to come finish them up for me so I can hurry up and wear them?

Give me Some Men Who Are Stout-Hearted Men

First, my apologies if the title leaves you whistling terrible songs all day.  That song pops into my head every single time I hear someone talk about manly socks (with the substitution of the word 'socks' wherever you hear 'men' of course).  I wouldn't want to speculate as to why exactly this happens, but it does. Hopefully I've spread the pain a bit. Now with that out of the way, on to the socks. See? The goal was socks that were thick, blue, and guy-friendly. I'm confident I've gotten the thick part down, and pretty comfortable about the blue part.  [...]

Not My Strong Suit

So the plan had been to put this pattern up on Monday.  But it's ready now, and I don't really do patience if I can help it.  Also, there might just possibly be something else going on on Monday that I'll want to squee about.  So I'm putting it out now.  Handy thing, making your own schedule. These are, of course, the magical, sanity-saving, purple hats.  One is for me, and one has made its way into the post to head off to my mom.  The first of these was cast on within hours of getting my hands on the [...]

Hats

Now while I don't generally condone matching outfits, I think there may possibly be an exception for hats. Especially hats that don't really match so much as share some characteristics. The exception is even easier to grant if the hats will generally adorn the heads of people who live in different states. Really, the chances of these hats being worn at the same time in the same place is pretty low. The risk of hat duplication embarrassment would be far higher with a hat from Target, right?  I'm declaring it an acceptable risk. The first hat was made for my [...]
