A Lovely Few Days

Went quiet for a few days there, sorry about that.  We were holed up playing at hibernating. We did a bit of ice cream making.  We are, by the way, ice cream geniuses.  Our first batch is some of the tastiest ice cream I've ever had.  That swirl is salty caramel.  Because I like you and want you to have a happy and productive life (and because I don't want your pants to fit any better than mine) I will tell you how to make it some time in the next week or two.  We atoned for our caramel-y sins [...]

More Hats

He wanted another hat.  I can do that.  Cast on Sunday, should be casting off tonight.  Might be able to convince him to let me get some proper pics tomorrow. I'm very much liking this 'double up two otherwise unlikely to be used yarns to get one nifty yarn.'  Isn't that a pretty color?  You have to pay a bit of extra attention to make sure you get both strands when you're doing purl decreases, but otherwise it's not really a challenge. In non-knitting news, the oven has finally committed suicide.  Way back in July it started acting up.  It [...]

Polling the Collective

Apparently the action shot didn't quite cut it and folks want to see the top of The Boy's hat too. I'm happy to oblige.  One hat, all tidy and finished!  I think the next hat will be for me (having gotten some of my mistakes out of the way on my early victims friends and family).  I think it's time to explore the realms of the slightly poufy hat.  I've decided the watch cap style doesn't suit my face and the poufy hat has the potential to look reasonably non-dorky on me. Now this is actually where you guys come [...]

Lickety Split

So you know what I've discovered? Hats are wicked wicked fast. As in, cast on Friday night, cast off Saturday night fast. And it wasn't even like I spent all day Saturday knitting. The hat just sort of happened when I wasn't even looking. I could get used to that. I have a pair or two of socks that could benefit from that approach. And please don't worry.  Socks are still first in my heart.  I will not abandon them.  This hat thing is just a phase...an enjoyable phase...but a phase none the less.  I'm pretty sure that you can [...]

Here We Go Again

The hat thing seems to have stuck.  Shortly after finishing my friend's hat, The Boy cut off all his hair.  A day or two later he mentioned that his head was cold and that he could maybe just possibly see the wisdom of a hat.  Within minutes yarn was located (we'd picked it out a long time ago when he was thinking of knitting his own hat), balls were wound, and the hat was begun. That winding part actually proved unexpectedly tricky.  This is Nichole by Schaefer Yarn and Hand Paint Sock by Misti Alpaca.  I don't have a lot [...]
