Fluke
Published On: August 8, 2022

These only exist because the hearts were so much fun.

Well, that, and I wanted to see if I could make them with absolutely no seaming, no picking up stitches, and only two ends to weave in (the answer was yes, yes I could, which is just darn nifty).

Seriously though, the hearts were so much fun (and so popular with you folks) that I wanted to see what other sorts of tiny nonsense you’d let me get away with. Because really, there was every chance that the hearts were a fluke and only popular because I managed to bring them out shortly before valentines day.

But making tiny little structural things satisfies my brain in a way I cannot fully explain, so I wanted to do it again. And so the stars happened. And they’ve been my bestselling pattern ever since. I love it when you like my weird little projects as much as I do!

Just like the hearts, they’ve gone off to have all sorts of grand adventures (garlands, mobiles, christmas ornaments, pocket friends, good luck charms, party decorations, you folks are a seriously clever lot and I love seeing what you do with them)!

I truly think a big part of the appeal of these tiny projects is how very very shareable they are. We’re knitters. We use our yarn and needles and time and skill to say ‘I love you’ or ‘I’m thinking of you’ or ‘good luck’ or ‘you can do hard things.’ And tiny projects make it easy to say those things a bit more often!

The pattern is called Scintillation, and it’s one of the six patterns that will be returning next month.

I’m spending some time over the next few weeks introducing the returning patterns and talking about some of techniques I use in creating them.

I used the hearts to talk about filling tiny projects, and I want to use these to talk about blocking tiny things. Just like last time, I’m putting together a big post on that which will be up shortly. In the meantime, if you have questions about blocking tiny things, leave them over on instagram (I have comments turned off on the blog) and I’ll try and answer most of them in the upcoming post.

And if you happen to have knit these, post a picture on instagram and tag it with #tinynonsense. I’d love to see what you’ve done with them!
