As promised, June is going to be all socks all month long.  The plan, assuming nothing goes alarmingly pear shaped over the next few weeks, is to do a sock every single Tuesday (and there are five Tuesdays this month!) so we can get a bunch of our old friends out of hibernation.  This week’s sock is Dippers.

These are still some of the absolute best socks I’ve ever made for handling, ahem, enthusiastically colored yarns.  If you’ve got a yarn that wants to pool on you, one of the easiest things to do is use a stitch pattern that takes more yarn on some rows than on others.  It moves the color around and breaks things up nicely.  And there are limits to just how much you can mess about with stitch counts on a sock (socks have fairly tight tolerances they need to stay within in order to still fit right), but this does a really beautiful job.

I mean don’t get me wrong, they will look lovely on solid or semi solid yarns too (plus the wee little fancy stitches that move everything around are so stinking much fun to do they should probably be heavily regulated), but it’s a good trick to have in your back pocket for any opinionated yarns you might happen to have lurking about!
