On Monday we talked a bit about yarn and gauge for thick socks, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites.

I finished these almost exactly seven years ago, they are one of my favorite (read ‘most worn’) pairs, and they are still going strong.  This is part of the reason I secretly (not so secretly) love thick socks best.  Knit them right (that means knit them tight), and they last forever!  Seriously, the oldest and most often worn socks in my sock basket are the thick ones (and they need the fewest repairs).  I really am convinced they’re magic.

This is another example of smaller stitch repeats being easier to scale up.  Just like yesterday, this stitch is only 6 stitches wide (someone always gets nervous that the floats will get caught on things, but they only run for three stitches, and they’re anchored in place with twisted stitches, so they really really don’t).  Once again it’s in oodles of sizes (54, 60, 66, 72, 78, or 84 stitches around) and the math’s all done for working at 7, 8, or 9 stitches per inch, so you’ll almost certainly be able find a size/gauge combo that will give you the socks you’re dreaming of!
