Propitiate (plus giveaway)
I think we’re due for some socks, don’t you? Propitiate are (back) out, and I have a feeling they’re the sort of socks that a lot of us sock knitters secretly most like to make (and wear). They’re 10% off with the code COZY, and there’s yarn to give away, so read on!
There seem to be two sock factions. There’s the Let’s Make This As Complicated As Possible camp (lace! and brioche! and quite possibly some beads! and three different colors of yarn! and they start in the middle of your foot and go together some really weird way!). And then there’s the Yup, It’s A Sock, A Comfy, Cozy, Mellow Sock camp (I can knit this on a plane or in a waiting room or in front of the TV, I do not need absolute silence to figure out what’s going on! I know it fits great because I’ve knit a dozen other socks that go together like this and they’re always awesome! I can find my rhythm and get into a nice groove and before I know it, it’s done!). And I don’t judge…there’s absolutely room for both groups! The trick is knowing which you are (or, if you flit from one to the other, knowing which you’re feeling like today) and finding a pattern to match your vibe.
These are firmly Camp Cozy. They’re not complicated, and they don’t pretend to be. But they are comfy (ribbed socks always fit so well) and versatile (written in five sizes to fit just about anyone, and sedate enough to pass muster with the ‘no fancy socks please crowd if you use a quiet color). And they’ve got just enough going on with that lovely little cable to keep you moving along (it can’t just be me…someone else has to be susceptible to the whole ‘let me just finish the next cable so I can see one more circle form’ thing too). And they’re just more fun than they have any right to be (shhhh, don’t let on to the Camp Complicated folks, but Camp Cozy socks have an awful lot going for them)!
These are made out of Knit One, Crochet Too’s Crock-o-Dye yarn, and it’s great for socks. It’s a superwash merino, nylon, and silk blend, and all those fibers have a job to do. The superwash merino makes it easy care, the nylon and silk both make it sturdy, and the silk gives it just a hint of sheen. The combo is great! I’ve got three extra skeins of yarn, and that means I can send happy mail off to three different folks.
I’ll give one away here (leave a comment on this post telling me if you’re Camp Complicated or Camp Cozy for your socks to enter here) and give two away on instagram.
And since I can’t send yarn to everyone, I’ll have to make do with giving everyone a little discount code instead. You can use the code COZY until the end of the day, Friday August 3 (eastern time) to take 10% off these socks.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, August 3, 2018 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send the yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. This is open to adults anywhere in the world, but I need a US mailing address to send yarn to. And someone will ask, so my plan is to notify the blog, instagram, and twitter winners at as close to the same time as I can and then let who ever answers first have first pick of all three colors, then the next person gets to pick from the other two, and whoever answers last gets the last one. Fairest way I can think to do it!
I tend to be in both camps at the same time. I almost always have a complicated or at least one with a complicated stitch pattern going along side a definitively Camp Cozy sock usually in a indie dyed yarn where the simple sock is a frame for a great colorway. I’m planning to do this sock in Nebula with sparkle from See Jayne Knits. It’s going to be beautiful!
I’m definitely more of a Camp Complicated person. The more complex the lace/cable pattern, the better. I love a challenge.
Why not both? I love the complicated sock patterns for focused knitting projects at home, but simple socks are a great project for me to travel with.
Gosh, I am torn between the 2!! I love the way cables make socks so intriguing but then they are my little secret under pants!! But for a quick knit, comfy is the way to go and I can save my lace and cables for shawls.
I’m firmly in Camp Comfy. I love my socks just complicated enough to keep my attention but not so complicated that I have to turn off the tv or stop reading.
I’m definitely in the Camp Cozy camp, but I’ve got to have a little bit of interest and these seem to fit the bill. Too much plain vanilla is just, well, too plain.
I am camp cozy…however I like a little bit of a challenge. I am rather new to sock knitting, and I am yet to get a pair that is the same size! One of these days…..I am knitting the Classy Cable socks…Love that pattern! Now I have to get this pattern. I love cables. Thanks for the chance to win some yummy yarn.
Camp Cozy so far.
Camp Cozy… knitting a sock to fit my foot correctly is complicated enough right now!
I usually have one of each on the needles, I need something simple and cozy to take with me so it sits ready to go by the door and one a little more challenging to work when I want to listen to a booktape. This would be a new yarn for me, love to give it a try.
Most of the time Camp Cozy, especially if I have to knit them for gifts.
Sometimes I like cozy, sometimes complicated. These socks are the perfect compromise. There’s enough going on so I don’t get bored but I could knit them when I have less ability to concentrate.
Wow what a beautiful sock! I too love the little cable circles. I jump from comfy to complicated and back to comfy so don’t know what category I’m in. Thanks for the chance to be picked for this beautiful yarn!
anymore I’d have to say Camp Cozy for me.
Lately I am more Camp Cozy, for summer time knits. I love the lines of these socks, and the timing is great, I need some hand knit socks for this coming fall.
I am in Camp Cozy territory. I have knit so many complicated patterns over the years that I have almost stopped knitting socks, if I get one pair out a year that is a lot. More than not I do not even finish the pair so I want Cozy.
I’m almost at the end of a “Camp Complicated” pair of socks and have been planning a “Camp Cozy” pair to cast on next with a cotton blend yarn (these will be worn around the house socks). I think this latest pattern (or re-release) will be what I knit next. Thanks!
My eye always gets drawn to Complicated, and I love a challenge, but one must have a Cozy project going too, for those times when you’re in low light, or on a plane, or just need to not think so hard – right? (Surely I don’t need to justify having 5 or 6 WIPs, do I?!)
After 40 years on my feet as a Nurse, I am definitely Camp Cozy. Retirement is for knitting.
I am a Camp Cozy sock knitter.
There is nothing better than wearing comfy clothes, sipping a hot beverage and knitting a comfy sock.
It goes with that slow knitting process Just enjoying the yarn and needles creating a lovely simple sock that feels wonderful.
To me, socks should be easy to make and comfy to wear, so it’s Camp Cozy all the way!
Definitely Camp Cozy! And I also have the cable addiction – just gotta see the next circle! Makes me happy. I’m also a newbie to socks…just always so many cool things to try that I haven’t gotten around to them yet.
Camp Cozy!
Camp complicated, enjoy the challenge.
Totally Camp Cozy. Socks are my travel project. Small enough to go anywhere and simple enough to be done through anything.
