Calceiform (plus giveaway)
So those slippers? The ones that somehow manage to make even my somewhat…ah…substantial feet look very nearly shapely and elegant? Yeah, they’re called Calceiform, and they’re out on ravelry today! You can get them for 10% off for the next day or two with the code SHAPELY.
I just love how you put these together. You start by knitting a heel flap and heel turn, just like you’d do for many top down socks. then you pick up stitches around the heel flap and knit back and forth making all the pretty lacy bits, until the slipper almost wraps around your foot. Then you do some decreases (it’s a lot like how you’d do a gusset on socks, just moved a bit farther down your foot), join it all up to work in the round, and zip on down to the toe.
The whole thing feels easy and familiar like a sock…but oh so much quicker (both because the yarn is thicker and because you’re making less fabric than you get in a sock). And of course the finished slipper is ridiculously fetching…I just can’t get over the adorable little leaves on the toe!
I’ve got a skein of the lovely Opulence DK by String Theory that I used to make these to give away. I bought two back when I found the yarn, but managed to get a pair for my rather substantial feet out of just one skein with enough left over that I wasn’t nervous, so I’ve got an extra skein to give to someone.
Just leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite pair of slippers. They don’t have to be knit…fuzzy bunny slippers totally count too. I just want to know I’m not alone in feeling like slippers make the world better!
And if you’re ready for a new pair of slippers, the pattern itself is up on ravelry. You can use the code SHAPELY until the end of the day, Friday July 20 (eastern time) to take 10% off.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, July 20, 2018 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send the yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. This is open to adults anywhere in the world, but I need a US mailing address to send yarn to.
They aren’t technically mine, but my favorite slippers are my son’s dinosaur feet. They are so cushy and soft. I often borrow them while he is at school.
As a kid I’d always have the standard men’s style corduroy slippers from Sears, usually tan, but black if they had them. I would love to have some now. Instead I’m using a worn out pair of canvas walking shoes, probably 12 years old, with holes in the toes and the back is folded down so I can slip right in.
Your posts about these slippers have inspired me to decide to knit these slippers for my grandmother’s Christmas present. My favorite pair of slippers are a pair of oversized socks (my first socks!) that I knit in bulky alpaca and then felted down to fit my feet. They are so fuzzy and cozy!
I’ve been waiting for this one to come out! I made a pair of Faultlessly Neat for my mom a couple years ago and she loves them. Painted puffy paint on the bottom in a star pattern to avoid slipping on their wooden floors 🙂
I love slippers bc my feet get very cold in the winter. Currently I have a pair of LL Bean moccasin slippers that I’m finally wearing thru, and my mom got me a pair of their felted clog slippers with a kitty on them, but I really need to knit some for myself as well. Something to wear only inside and make my feet toasty, and I love the leaves on this new pattern! And the yarn!
My favorite slippers are the French Press felted slippers. I had just finished my first scarf and felt on top of the world. Perusing ravelry, I fell in love with slippers. I threw caution to the wind and dove right in. It taught me that passion for a project can make you brave, felting is magical and awesome and that I can achieve what I put my mind to. Later I would learn how gauge, yarn choice, pattern quality and skill level can affect how knitting projects come out. But those slippers are a darn miracle that made me feel like I could take on the world.
Having never been much of a knitted slipper fan in the past, I was both surprised and pleased when I saw these. These are slippers I’m actually excited to make! Great pattern!
My favorite slippers are hard-soled and fleece-lined. I live in them in the winter – the only trick is because of the sole, I have been known to head out the door and realize I need to go back in and put on ‘real’ shoes. And I love days when I don’t need any shoes but slippers!
My fav pair of slippers are my dragon slippers! I look goofy in them but I love everything about them haha. Btw these knit slippers are the prettiest I’ve seen yet!
I think my favorite slippers are the ones I made in college using the school colors (Indiana University). Those years were before I had learned any clever stitches so plain stockinette was it. They were worn until they fell apart 🙂 My New favorite slippers will be these stunning ones you have designed which will be used when I am at my spinning wheel. I cannot wait!
My favorite slippers are sheepskin with a rubber sole. I don’t know the brand, but I buy a new pair every few years.
My favorite pair of slippers are the ones I made for my husband. He says I never knit him anything so I have knit him several pairs of Bev Galeskas Felted Clogs which he wears all the time in the winter and has even been known to take on vacation. I would love to make more of these but these new fangled washing machines they just do not felt like the old agitation ones. Off to buy the slippers for myself as I might use a cotton blend to keep the feet comfy with cold air conditioning.
L.L. Bean!
These are so beautiful. What fiber or blend do you feel is the most appropriate for slippers? I’m sure something soft but still sturdy.
My favorite slippers turned out to be my dog’s favorite slippers too…shearling lined, super comfy. Wearable no more!
Do knitted socks count as slippers too? I love to snuggle up with them st home too. So you are not alone I guess.
My favorite slippers are ones that fit like socks. These will be ideal, beautiful!
Slippers are an absolute must! I’ve started bringing them to my friends’ houses when they have “no shoes” policies, and make sure I take a pair with rubber soles when I go to visit relatives with wood-burning stoves. 🙂 Thank you for the giveaway, and thank you *more* for the beautiful pattern!
I love my royal purple Glerups with leather soles that my husband gave me for Christmas a couple of years ago. I wear them from fall through early spring. From then through summer, I wear my Birkenstocks around the house. But when I travel, I have a pair of slipper socks (store-bought) that I take with me and every time I use them I scold myself for not have hand-knit ones. Calceiform would be so perfect. You are the Queen of Slippers! <3
I have been waiting for the perfect slipper for the summer months – I can’t stand not having anything on my feet as they freeze quite easily but don’t want them overheating either. These should do the trick nicely!
One of the first things I made when I learned to knit was a pair of slippers called Duffers. I wore them until they had holes in the bottom. I definitely need a new pair and I have been waiting for you to release this pattern for what seems like forever!! 🙂 They are beautiful – thanks for the giveaway!!
My favorite pair of slippers is probably a pair I remember from my long ago teenhood. My mom knit those puffy checkerboard slippers that I believe all knitters of a certain age (OTD–older than dirt) recall. She made me a pair out of indestructible Red Heart and I wore them even after the two-color pompoms died in the dryer into something that didn’t look pompommy anymore.

I made a pair of Duffers that I wore and wore. Now I need some new ones, and this beautiful yarn would be awesome. I just need to decide between this pattern and Burgeoning!
I have these purple fleece slippers that have beans in them. You can microwave then for a minute or so and have the toastiest of toes.
I have yet to find my favorite pair of slippers – maybe these will be the ones!
My favorite slippers are yet to be knit!
