Calceiform (plus giveaway)
So those slippers? The ones that somehow manage to make even my somewhat…ah…substantial feet look very nearly shapely and elegant? Yeah, they’re called Calceiform, and they’re out on ravelry today! You can get them for 10% off for the next day or two with the code SHAPELY.
I just love how you put these together. You start by knitting a heel flap and heel turn, just like you’d do for many top down socks. then you pick up stitches around the heel flap and knit back and forth making all the pretty lacy bits, until the slipper almost wraps around your foot. Then you do some decreases (it’s a lot like how you’d do a gusset on socks, just moved a bit farther down your foot), join it all up to work in the round, and zip on down to the toe.
The whole thing feels easy and familiar like a sock…but oh so much quicker (both because the yarn is thicker and because you’re making less fabric than you get in a sock). And of course the finished slipper is ridiculously fetching…I just can’t get over the adorable little leaves on the toe!
I’ve got a skein of the lovely Opulence DK by String Theory that I used to make these to give away. I bought two back when I found the yarn, but managed to get a pair for my rather substantial feet out of just one skein with enough left over that I wasn’t nervous, so I’ve got an extra skein to give to someone.
Just leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite pair of slippers. They don’t have to be knit…fuzzy bunny slippers totally count too. I just want to know I’m not alone in feeling like slippers make the world better!
And if you’re ready for a new pair of slippers, the pattern itself is up on ravelry. You can use the code SHAPELY until the end of the day, Friday July 20 (eastern time) to take 10% off.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, July 20, 2018 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send the yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. This is open to adults anywhere in the world, but I need a US mailing address to send yarn to.
Added them to my queue right away, love your patterns.
I purchased about a dozen pair of knit slippers while traveling in Turkmenistan a decade ago. I gave away many pairs but kept three (!) for me. They are all acrylic but are super comfortable and I wear them all the time. I even take a pair when visiting people in winter so I can leave wet boots or shoes at the door. With multiple pairs I hope they last many more years!
My favourite slippers are felted merino Glerups, with a rubber sole. I live in them until I am forced to put on shoes. Thanks for the chance to win. These slippers are beautiful!
My favorite pair of slippers is always pink and fuzzy! Can’t wait to put them on when I walk in the door!
I love my Nuk slippers, pretty much live in them 6 months of the year. Sheep’s wool on the inside, so cozy and warm with our long cold winters in Canada.
I’ve never been a big wearer of slippers before, but in the past couple of cold Michigan winters I’ve discovered how nice they can be. I have a hand crocheted pair that were mad for my fiance, but since he never wears them they have become mine. They are black and orange for the university where he got his undergrad degree (Oregon State University).
My favorite slippers are a silk pair I get when I visit Singapore. I buy a replacement pair or two every time I go, just in case.
I have a horrible time wearing slippers and hope that I will like to wear these!
My favorite pair of slippers are from the “Duffers” pattern on Ravelry. I felted them and they are so comfy. I love your slipper pattern. So pretty!!!
I am with you–I love hanging out at home instead of braving the world.
I have two favorite pair, one crocheted which is a pair of Moroccan Babouche slippers made out of a parrot green cotton yarn that I wear around the house in summer and a pair of Yalameh slippers out of Koigu Chelsea Merino in a golden brown. I need to make back-ups of both so I never have to be without them inside. I think I will make a pair of these for my mother, who will love them.
My favourite pair of slippers is a knit pair I picked up in Halifax, N.S. years ago. They are so cozy! I save them for when I’m going visiting. I’m like you, going out is nice but being home curled up and cozy is better. My slippers make me feel a little bit like home when I’m out, they help my “comfort zone”. Your Calceiform slippers are so pretty, I plan to make a few pairs in different sizes and have them at the door so when people come to my house and wear them maybe they’ll feel more in their comfort zone too.
Very pretty design.
I think I must be slipper deprived! Everyone’s descriptions sound so luscious! For me, it’s utilitarian grey wool, slippers. I need a little slipper excitement!
OOOHHHH!! Your comment request reminded me of the garter stitch slippers my Finnish grandmother made for all of us. (She also had a pattern for slippers made from washcloths! She was thrifty AND crafty!)
As always I LOVE your innovative construction. These slippers are lovely — I’m on my way to Ravelry now…
These are beautiful. I’ve knit several different pairs of slippers but none as beautiful as these. I wear crocs as slippers but will be making these soon
My favorite slippers right now are a pair of monkey slippers that I bought. They are very cute, comfortable, and warm.
My current faves are slip-ons from the Chicago Black Hawks store. In the winter, I wear some felted ones that go up the ankle. I have made several pairs for DH & he keeps wearing them out!
So far my slippers are just commercially made, but my favs of them are slip on clog style, which I buy in the men’s department because they’re cheaper and sturdier than ones made for women. I look forward to your pattern being my new favorite pair:)
I love my super warm fake fur lined slippers that keep my feet warm in winter. They are red and white and so worn down that I fear I’m going to have to replace them sooner than later. And I love my many handknit ankle socks as well because they are nice to wear in bed.
I don’t yet have a favorite pair of slippers. These look like they could fit that bill!
One year for Christmas, I got some shearling slippers with rubber soles. During the winter and fall months when our apartment is cold, those are definitely my go-to – they are so soft, so warm, and if I need to run out the trash really fast, I don’t HAVE to change my shoes!
I am in love with these! I’m making a pair for my mom for Christmas! Your patterns are beautiful.
My favorite pair of slipper where made for me by my mother when I was a kid. They were the first wool things I ever had and I loved them and wore them until I couldn’t squeeze my feet into them anymore.
These slippers are so beautiful that my knit sock phobia might have to be broken! As I read your description I thought you were describing Me! Stay home, curl up with a good book, slippers….mmmmmmmm. My favorite slippers are fuzzy and black.
My favorite pair of slippers are the ones I will make with this gorgeous yarn.
