So So Nifty (with some goodies to give away)
So remember how I said there were goodies in the first 500 packages of Silk Road Socks that went out? Well I think it’s time we show off what they were! But to do that, we need a little backstory.
If you’ve gotten your book, you’ve probably noticed all the beautiful illustrations scattered throughout.
I mean look at that…isn’t that cool?
And that…how can you not love that?
These (and the map, and the inside covers, and pretty much anything else you look at and go ooooooohhhh!) are by the delightful Stephanie Fliss. Early in the production of Silk Road Socks I realized I wanted illustrations, and said something on twitter about it, and she got in touch. And this is totally a better book because she did!
She created motifs from each of the various styles of rugs, and each pattern opens with the corresponding illustration (and uses bits of the illustration around the page numbers because that stuff makes me happy and I get to be a dork on my own books…). I love them beyond all reason. You can see the full version of each pattern’s illustration on the pattern’s ravelry page!
So it seemed only natural that when it came time to come up with something fun to send along in the early bird packages, we’d use Stephanie’s awesome pictures. She made line art versions of some of the illustrations and I got them printed up as little packs of postcards that you can color in yourself.,
These are more fun than they have any right to be, and from what I’m hearing, you guys love them too (and some folks have asked, so just for the record, you can totally send them in the mail). If you’ve gotten yours and colored them, I’d love to see it! And if your life just won’t be complete without a set of your own, leave a comment here telling me how you feel about coloring and I’ll pick a three winners to send a set to. I’ll be doing the same over on instagram, so you can leave a comment on the picture of the postcards there to double your chances of winning!
Oh, and someone will ask, so the pencils are these (which I’ve had since college and they’re still going strong, and as always, amazon links are affiliate links).
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time), Sunday September 17, 2017 will be entered to win. I’ll pick winners, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send postcards their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. These are little enough they can ship anywhere, so it’s fine if you’re not in the states.
I love coloring! It’s so relaxing, addicting, and therapeutic-just like knitting!
LOVE coloring. A friend with multiple children, like myself, once said, “It’s cheaper than therapy!” Very relaxing and calming.
I find coloring just as meditative as knitting. I enjoy watch the colors play off each other. Thank you for the opportunity!
I love it, but stress sometimes about color choice! I also stress about color choice with yarn. 😂
Beautiful illustrations and the colouring-in idea was genius. So happy this comp is open to us non-US folks, thank you!
I also like coloring, although it competes with my knitting time. I’m all about color and pattern! 🙂
Coloring! Squee!
Who doesn’t love coloring- you’re never to old for that!
It’s nice to be able to let go and just play with color.
Those are so pretty!
I’m ambivalent about colouring on my own, but I like having something around to colour when my roommates are doing art stuff (since I am no good at drawing) so I can participate with the group.
So fun! And the postcards are so pretty!
I love coloring! It’s very soothing! The new book is amazing!
Those are sooo cool. But because I never win anything is there any plan to maybe have more printed and offer them for sale?
Coloring is a great way to relax. Gives you such a peaceful, easy feeling.
Never too old for coloring 💗
These are just beautiful. I was enjoying clicking around on my Ravelry boards and found you there. My twenty-something daughter got me interested in coloring and I just love it. I have to be very precise and careful when making choices at work, and of course have to follow knitting patterns carefully, but when I am coloring I just grab a pencil and get started, without worrying about it being perfect. So relaxing.
I haven’t got into colouring (yet) – who needs another craft/art, right? But now I’m beginning to see how colouring might help me planning future projects and how colour can be used in those projects.
and if colouring is as relaxing as knitting, then how can I possibly go wrong?
Beautiful! Color has always been my big challenge – maybe coloring will help!
Colouring comes a close second to knitting as a hobby! I love it and I adore the designs in your new book – I love the fact that you have illuminated the page numbers with these designs – thanks for the chance to win some beautiful postcards 🙂
Those are so lovely, and postcards are the perfect size for an afternoon of coloring.
I LOVE ❤️ coloring! I buy myself the largest pack of colored pencils available every year when I take my kids back-to-school shopping. I’ve been coloring doodle pages since before they were a thing. Waaaaaay back when I was in elementary I would doodle a whole page, then color, and slip it into my binder cover.
Coloring makes me happy, relaxes me, and lets me play with color even when I don’t a have yarn in all the colors. These postcards ar beautiful and such a wonderful idea. Thank you for the chance to win.
Coloring puts me back in a happy little girl place…. emotionally easy, focused and completely in the moment. Knitting does the same thing but is more tactual because of the yarn. Coloring feels like the world is wide open to experience color, color, and more color……
What I love about these postcards is that they inspire me to consider different color combinations and to play with color in ways that I might not on larger canvases. Yay for inspiration!!!! and they are such lovely drawings!!! 🙂
