Ensnared (plus giveaway)
Do you realize how long it’s been since we had a shiny new sock pattern around here? It was back in November. That’s just not cool! We need more socks, and I think Ensnared are just the ticket.
That’s a nice classic sock to jump back in with, isn’t it now! There’s just something about a perfect ribbed sock that’s hard to beat. They fit so well and feel so good on your feet and you can totally get away with them if your sock target insists on fairly sedate socks.
And, if you have a yarn as beautiful as this, the ribbing is actually sort of meditative. The yarn is Meridian by Seven Sisters Arts in the color Damselfly, and it is (like all of their yarns) a thing of beauty and delight.
But you guys know me well enough to know that it’s really that fancy bit on the top that steals my heart. There’s something about that lattice work that just does me in. It’s the perfect mix of interesting but not fiddly (and just impressive looking enough that you feel rather pleased with yourself while you’re doing it, which really is the important bit). It gets me in my happy knitting place every time, and really, isn’t that what knitting’s for?
So here’s what we’re going to do. I want to hear what gets you in your happy knitting place. Is it ribbing? Plain stockinette? Colorwork? Something where you can see the pattern and don’t need to check a chart? There’s no wrong answer, I just like knowing what everyone else geeks out on! The random number fairy will pick someone out of a hat, and I’ll send them a skein of this gorgeous Seven Sisters Arts yarn.
And for everyone I can’t send yarn to (I’m just not cool enough to get yarn to everyone, sorry!), I’ve got a coupon for this pattern. You can use the code HAPPYPLACE to get 10% off the hat between now and Friday. Just put Ensnared in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code HAPPYPLACE. You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, April 21, 2017 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winners). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only ship physical prizes to US addresses.
My favorite knitting du jour is yoked, stranded stuff. It just makes me happy to knit along & get to the yoke & do a bit of color-work before I finish.
Ribbing!
I love the color variation!
Color work makes me happy I love anticipating the next row ; moves things along too!
I love things I can memorize easily so I’m not looking back and forth at a pattern or chart…I can just knit!
And these socks and the yarn are beautiful!
I love knitting brioche!
I love any kind of colorwork and watching the design emerge!!
Cables are relaxing and fun to watch their formation. Lace is lovely, but I can’t knit it around others.
I love me a simple stitch pattern with big results. I feel so clever laughing into my handknit (and really very simple) sleeve.
You’re right ribbed is fantastic! And after a few pairs of lace, always good to return to ribs! Thanks for another beautiful design!
I love knitting socks (I have a sock dresser that is almost full), especially ones with a challenge so I learn something new.
Thanks for the yarn giveaway. I just discovered Seven Sisters Arts yarns when they had a booth at our Knit-In last month. Such wonderful yarn – my friends and I all bought yarn there so we all have happy knitting now.
Me too. Mt friend and I each bought a shawl kit from them; the yarn is excellent.
I LOVE this sock pattern! Self-striping stockinette makes me happy!
garter stitch…simple back and forth, but lovely rows. I enjoy making these rows perfect – tension, evenness, color. And when I switch colors, I really love the little “running stitch” type of pattern that develops. It is so neat and pretty.
The feel of good yarn, watching the colors change and pattern evolve. The peace of steady stitching; the compelling discoveries of new designs.
My knitting happy place is when I can read my pattern and don’t have to keep looking at the written pattern. It’s a skill I’m still working on but when I get it, it’s awesome!
I love everything about cables. Since the twist isn’t every row its just enough to keep me interested and I love the look in any knitted project.
Gorgeous socks!
I usually look for socks which have some ribbing because I like the way they fit.
I really enjoy patterns with easy to remember repeats so you I don’t have to constantly refer to the pattern.
When I’m working with colors I really like that gets and keeps me excited. I recently made some baby items in pink, my least favorite color. Although the items turned out really cute, it was pure eye torture knitting with pink. Thanks for the giveaway.
My default knitting is socks, and you are one of my favorite sock designers. My family loves getting them, and are al knitworthy.
It’s a win-win. Thanks for the offer.
I love patterns that look nice on both sides!
I have two loves that are as opposite as can be. Some days I need complicated patterns. Charts, lace, beads, cables… the more the better. I love to be able to get completely absorbed in a beautifully designed pattern. Other days, I love a plain stockinette sock. The simplicity acts as a cleanse.
I like patterns that aren’t too fiddly but aren’t too plain, either. Something with a bit of rhythm. I know I’ve hit my sweet spot when I start to hum along with the knitting.
I love cables – no wait, lace – or maybe fairisle…but I love garter and stockinette and ribbing. Maybe the only things I don’t really love are entrelac and intarsia.
strangely enough, i enjoy winding yarn by hand – the feeling of the yarn and the play of color as the ball takes shape make me think about what i will be making with it and imagine how it will knit up. i also like turning heels!
My happy place is just having wonderful yarn to knit with and a new to me pattern as I love to learn new stitches and techniques. I’ve just started to spin and find that a meditative task too.
You know me–it’s cables! Love them, and on socks, particularly twisted-stitch cables.
