Ensnared (plus giveaway)
Do you realize how long it’s been since we had a shiny new sock pattern around here? It was back in November. That’s just not cool! We need more socks, and I think Ensnared are just the ticket.
That’s a nice classic sock to jump back in with, isn’t it now! There’s just something about a perfect ribbed sock that’s hard to beat. They fit so well and feel so good on your feet and you can totally get away with them if your sock target insists on fairly sedate socks.
And, if you have a yarn as beautiful as this, the ribbing is actually sort of meditative. The yarn is Meridian by Seven Sisters Arts in the color Damselfly, and it is (like all of their yarns) a thing of beauty and delight.
But you guys know me well enough to know that it’s really that fancy bit on the top that steals my heart. There’s something about that lattice work that just does me in. It’s the perfect mix of interesting but not fiddly (and just impressive looking enough that you feel rather pleased with yourself while you’re doing it, which really is the important bit). It gets me in my happy knitting place every time, and really, isn’t that what knitting’s for?
So here’s what we’re going to do. I want to hear what gets you in your happy knitting place. Is it ribbing? Plain stockinette? Colorwork? Something where you can see the pattern and don’t need to check a chart? There’s no wrong answer, I just like knowing what everyone else geeks out on! The random number fairy will pick someone out of a hat, and I’ll send them a skein of this gorgeous Seven Sisters Arts yarn.
And for everyone I can’t send yarn to (I’m just not cool enough to get yarn to everyone, sorry!), I’ve got a coupon for this pattern. You can use the code HAPPYPLACE to get 10% off the hat between now and Friday. Just put Ensnared in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code HAPPYPLACE. You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, April 21, 2017 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winners). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only ship physical prizes to US addresses.
I adore garter stitch! When I need to calm down and recharge I knit plain garter stitch dishclothes in organic cotton. My kitchen drawer overfloweth and I love it!
I love the lattice work at the top! I’ve been working on the first half of a pair of socks since January. I really need to finish so I can move on to a new pair!
I love teeny tiny cables. I bought some gorgeous new rosewood cabling needles recently and am loving cables even more. Having said that, I do like the upper band of the ensnared pattern very much! xx
I love cables!
I love patterns that incorporate beads!
I love a pattern that becomes intuitive after a few repeats and is easy to keep track of but delivers an impressive result. And ribbed socks are my favorite too!
I love patterns that have some sort of ribbing because of the nice way they fit (although ribbing slows me down). I really like patterns with short repeats, probably 4 or 6 rounds, so that I can memorize the pattern and knit away happily without a chart.
My knitting happy place(I call it Knitting Nirvana) is when I become one with the pattern and do not have to rely on the chart or written pattern.
My happy place generally reflects how I feel at that moment. Sometimes it’s the most dramatic of cables or patterning and some days it’s the zen of stocking stitch for miles. More about me than the knitting, you know?
I love stockinette and watching how the Colors of the yarn
paint their own pattern. But seeing your awesome
socks makes me want to try ribbing on the next pair.
Greetings
Dagmar
My happy place is knitting a pattern with enough variation in stitches to stay interesting but can be memorized after a few repeats or the project guides you to what stitches to do next.
I like to geek out on a mildly complex pattern with a repeat I can easily memorize…the first section or two might be a bit complex as I get use to it but after that I can go into knitting meditation easily.
I enjoy a little “pretty” to look forward to after the meditative 3/1 rib. I’m a toe up girl. Ensnared is just my style.
Colorwork is definitely my jam.
I love feeling the wool. Smelling wool is pretty good too. For stitches, I guess garter, so I don’t have to worry too much if I space out in the middle of a row.
It’s a beautiful sock pattern. I want make these as soon as I have completed my current pullover.

I enjoy something with an easily-memorized pattern so that I can read my knitting without having to consult a pattern every row…but I want enough going on that I don’t get bored!
Stockinette, especially in the round, puts me in the zone. I also appreciate an intuitive pattern.
My Happy Place is knitting a semi-fiddly, easy-to-memorize pattern — not too boring but not too complicated or long. Let’s say a 10-16 row pattern creating a smidge-more-than-a-basic pattern would put me smack dab in a Happy Place!
I love knitting cables, especially intricately cabled patterns, such as Aran cardigans. I do want to improve my color work skills, as I often admire those patterns too.
The color(s) and feel of the yarn are most important to me ~ certain colors and fibers amke me very happy 😍
And I LOVE the yarn you used to create these fun socks!
I love stockinette and watching the beautiful yarn do its thing!
Beautiful socks!
I love just about everything involving knitting, but I think my favorite is a textured repeating pattern. All garter or all knit bores me quickly, and lace/colorwork might require too much chart reading while watching a movie.
My happy place is lace. I love it!!!!
I love cables – but I also love a little lace. And if I’m car knitting, stockinette in the round or maybe some garter stitch. Shoot, I just love knitting.
