Constellate (plus giveaway)
Let’s start the new year off with something special, shall we? How about we get an awesome little hat on your needles. I think Constellate might be just the thing!
There’s something undeniably satisfying about this hat. It is, at its core, just a plain ribbed hat. One by three ribbing, about as classic as it gets. But that lovely little loopy stitch just adds something sort of magical.
And don’t worry, it’s totally easy to do. On most rows you’ll just work that lovely, soothing ribbing. But every now and then, you’ll do a little magic trick to make those pretty loops (the pattern shows you exactly how to do it with nifty step-by-step illustrations, I promise it’s not hard). And they’re not just pretty, they make the fabric denser, which makes the hat extra warm and cozy.
Oh and did I mention the fabric is reversible? There’s every chance the hardest part about this project is going to be deciding which side you want to show off first!
Though I confess, I’m going to ask you to do one more hard thing. I’m going to ask you to pick which color you’d most like to make the hat in. For you see, the good folks over at Madelinetosh have agreed to send one of you a skein of their delicious Tosh Merino Light to make a hat of your own. All you have to do is pick your favorite color (which I confess will be harder than you think, but that’s only because they’re all so amazing).
I made mine in Calligraphy, but I keep staring at Cove and Opaline (oh and Oak…or maybe Earl Grey). And if you’re feeling the urge, this would be a perfect chance to experiment with a speckled yarn like Birch or Optic. Those long loops would show off tiny pops of color beautifully. All you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment telling me which color is singing your song!
And though I can’t quite manage to send yarn to everyone, I can give everyone a discount. You can use the code CLASSIC to get 10% off the hat between now and Friday. Just put Constellate in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code CLASSIC. You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, January 6, 2017 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them.
Been waiting for this pattern! Would love to win.
Tart, Dr. Zhivago’s Sky, or Deep. Though I’m very tempted by your Calligraphy. Might need more than one. Hmmm….
I’m with you on the Dr. Zhivago’s Sky- it’s gorgeous! For me, though, there’s no beating Cousteau. The color is lovely, but what’s so impressive is how it captures the depth of color that you see underwater. That would have to be my pick!
Love the texture!!
I love the colorway Penumbra!!
I love Great Gray Owl. It’s been awhile since I have looked at Madelinetosh’s colorways.
Silver Fox is beautiful! Happy 2017!
Thanks for the giveaway! Badlands is the color that gladdens my knitter’s heart …
Love the design. It would look spectacular in Mill Pond!

Since Tosh Merino Light is my all time favorite yarn, I have used several of the colors. For this great hat pattern, I would pick a color that I have not used. I would pick Clematis. I love the deep purple-gray!
This is such a stunning pattern. Thank you so much for putting it together.

It is difficult to choose just one! I think I’d go with Deep.
I kept oohing and aahing over the colours but Chicory especially speaks to me.
I love Caligraphy as well. Such a gorgeous colour! Thanks for all the beautiful pattern you put out.
Just gorgeous!!!
Wow, what a beauty. I can just see it in Tosh Flycatcher Blue…a perfect wintery mix.
I’m feeling a little like a Duchess and this color would work beautifully with your pattern. Thanks!
Another totally wearable design. I love your work. I tend to like warmer colors so my two favorites would be Spicewood and Earl Grey, the latter being a little out of my comfort zone, so worth trying. 2017 off to a great start!
It was indeed a very difficult choice, but I finally decided to go for the colour ‘duchess’! And now I only need to win!
Well that’s a beautiful hat! That pattern with Madelinetosh yarn is just a perfect combination. I absolutely love Cousteau so that would be my first choice but it’s definitely hard to pick just one!
I think it would be stunning in farmhouse white. Lovely pattern!
Love this stitch and the pattern is perfect to show it off.
And my dream is Dust Bowl 🙂
So difficult to choose a color! I love them all. But I made a hat for my daughter in Celadon and every time she wears it I want to steal it back. I think this hat would also be lovely in Celadon.
Mare would my choice
I can’t wait to begin this hat. What a beautiful pattern and beautiful yarn. All the colors are gorgeous but I would love to see what it looks like knit up in Dachsund.
I love this hat Hunter! Another stunner….
Love their color Shira, so pretty and my daughter would love a hat in this pattern thanks for designing:)
