Rainbow Sparkle Pony Revenge
There’s obviously some sort of illicit substance coating this yarn. That’s the only explanation for why I’m actually still working on this. I don’t’ think I’ve ever knit this much stockinette in my life.
Still not sure if I love it or hate it…I mean I think I’ll wear the heck out of it, but knitting it is not what you’d call scintillating. How do you folks who knit things with lots of stockinette do it?
To be honest, if it’s stockinette in the round I don’t even have to look at what I’m doing which leads to lots of TV watching while knitting. Totally understand that you are bored, I’d be too.
I quite like mindless knitting, provided I can find something good to watch at the same time. It’s also the perfect kind of knitting to take to the weekly Knit ‘n Natter group. I call it Prozac Knitting 😉
I save all my plain knitting (or with minimal shaping), usually in the round – for telly watching, book reading, going to cinema or gigs, so I can just knit round and round while I’m concentrating on something else
Amazing how quickly it goes.
I find that simple knitting like this is usually reserved for road trips but outside of that, I’ve also been known to knit my way through several books, movies, and operas.
As others have said, this is prime TV knitting, or knitting while reading, or social knitting with friends in the coffeehouse, or other times when you want to knit but won’t be able to give it your full attention. It definitely has its place in the world!
Ditto the above comments. I really like stockinette in the round because I can do other things and I’m definitely a fan of multi-tasking.
Audio books or knitting podcasts. Gets your mind on something else and the knitting just flies.
Great for when I’m sick and brain dead, or totally stressed but have to feel yarn in my hands. A yarn with interesting color changes helps.
Back when I was in grad school I would often take some plain stockinette knitting with me to a boring class so I could listen and pay attention without going completely out of my mind. It was just enough to keep me from going crazy without taking up too much of my attention so I couldn’t learn.
Lots of stockinette? That’s when I watch TV, play video games (perfect for cut scenes) or read.
Plain stocking stitch knitting comes into its own when your life is particularly stressed or particularly busy. There’s the advantage that you don’t have to pay attention *at all* – so, it’s ideal for knitting in the car at night, or watching an action-packed movie, etc etc. It’s also great when you’re just too worn out for anything that requires the slightest bit of attention.
Basically, before kids I couldn’t stand it, and now I really need plain stocking stitch tubes in my life.
The yarn you have there should take a little of the boredom out of round and round and round, though maybe after the first few rainbow sections that excitement is gone. Otherwise, stockinette is sort of zen.
You have added an element of difficulty/reduced the autopilot factor by using dpns rather than just circulars.
I love knitting plain stockinette when the yarn colours provide the interest. With this I’d be sorely tempted to purl all the non-gray stitches (including the currently knit stitches in the ribbing) just to further emphasize the spiraling colours.
Ugh! The only way to get me through endless stockinette is tv or Netflix. Otherwise the project is destined to be abandoned.
I knit stockinette in the round when I am multitasking with other things that require attention, but not enough attention. Knitting helps keep me from fidgeting and feeling like I’m not getting anything done by just sitting there. Stockinette is great because I don’t have to think about it at all, and rarely look at it. Great for hanging out with friends and not making them feel ignored for the knitting. 😉
Also in the car (as a passenger) when I can’t see what I’m doing that well.
