Petiole (plus giveaway)
So confession time, there’s something about knitted leaves. I’m not honestly sure what, and I’m pretty sure they shouldn’t be this satisfying. But who am I to argue. I like them, and I suspect you do too. Especially the adorable ones in Petiole!
So the hat’s great fun. It’s tidy and orderly and totally worth working all that ribbing for the brim (you’ve know me long enough to know I go a bit cross eyed when asked to do more than three rows of ribbing). And of course the crown is downright lovely (because no one has time for boring crowns).
But if we’re being honest, I suspect these little cuffs are the real star here. Just look how adorable they are. Nothing has any right to be that cheerful.
That little leaf at the top nestles in right at the space between your thumb and forefinger. And no, it probably isn’t doing much to keep you warm. But oh my goodness it’s doing its part to keep you happy. And really, sometimes that’s what we want from a little bit of yarn, isn’t it?
I actually think this whole set is doing more than its fair share to increase happiness through yarn. I suspect it’s the leaves (maybe it’s because they’re so logical to knit, just nice orderly increases and decreases structured in a way that makes your knitting easy to read?), but I’m not going to argue with it!
Though really, at least some of it could be the yarn! I used Tosh Vintage, which is always fun to work with (their colors are just so pretty every time). Mine is in Amber Trinket (though my skein seems to be much pinker than what they show on their website…almost closer to their Begonia Leaf or Sugar Plum colors). And I’ve got a skein of the same base in a lovely deep blue to send home with one of you. If you think it should be yours, just leave a comment telling me what’s the most cheerful bit of knitting you’ve ever done (finger puppets? baby hats? tea cozy? There’s no right or wrong answer, I just like to hear what you guys are up to!)
And while I can’t quite manage to send yarn to everyone, I can give everyone a discount. You can use the code CHEERY to get a dollar off the price between now and Friday. Just put Petiole in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code CHEERY. You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, October 21, 2016 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only ship physical prizes to US addresses.
My most cheerful bit of knitting has been my Hitchhiker Beyond by Martina because I knit it out of the brightest yarn I could find. That made me happy.
I do love leafy patterns, though, and I love your Petiole Hat.
My most cheerful knitting was an Aeolian shawl, which used sparkly yarn and different coloured beads. Good thing, too, as it took me over a year to make!
Loving the leafiness of your patterns. 🙂
My cheeriest knitting has been a coordinating pair of sheep puppets knitted by myself and my daughter’s mother in law on the birth of our first grandchild. The sheep were wearing sweaters, hers with a cream sweater, mine with a self fair isle patterning yarn. So cute!
My most cheerful knitting are socks. We do a lot of traveling and for some reason, socks are easy and fast when we are on a trip. I love your patterns and would love to try this hat.
My cheeriest knitting is a wip my daughter currently has on her needles as it is the piece I am teaching her to knit on. She’s hoping to have a scarf for this winter. We work on it together with me taking a turn every couple of rows and she’s very excited about learning!
The most cheerful knitting I’ve done was a lace shawl (yes I used real lace yarn) for my mother. It made me so happy to work on it and think of how lucky I was to have such a wonderful mom!
Susan B Anderson’s Opal Sock Yarn Bunny was a very cheerful project, probably because the recipient was granddaughter #1!
So far my most cheerful piece of knitting is my Zigzagular socks with Zippity Do Dah color way by Rock and String Creations. These were my very first pair of proper socks and a beautifully cheery color way. I believe they will always be my favorite.
This is beautiful and perfect for fall!
My cheeriest knitting was a Puck shawl, fun because I got away from safe color combinations and made my stripes purple, gold and red.
I am new to knitting, a long time crocheter. My first shining spot in knitting was when I entered a felted knit bag in my county fair and got 1st place!
I just love this set. It’s autumnal in the extreme. Beautiful lace… I can’t stop looking at it.
Forgot my cheery bit! I made a little elephant stuffie that made me smile the whole time I was knitting.
love this pattern…leaves are perfect!
My cheeriest piece of knitting was a Fufnip hat with little puffins marching around it and some brightly colored stripes at the bottom that made a star at the top. Gave it to my mom, as she and my dad were taking a trip to Iceland, but would be there at the wrong time of year to see puffins in real life.
My favorite type of knit involves textures. I’m knitting up Patios socks right now with a jewel toned blue. I’ve also started a gauge swatch for your new slippers, Excursion. Im making them in a deep crandberry for my cousin. Love your leafty motif sock on this post. Fall is my favorite time of year and I have plans to sneeze in some quick hats before I start holiday knitting. Cheers to you for another fabulous knit.
Thank you for your generosity.
Cheery knitting – I have been knitting mittens – striped, variegated, different block colours – they are cheery!
My most cheerful knitting is hats! I love that they only need one ball of wool and they are fairly quick. Love everything about hats! Can’t wait to make this one!
My cheeriest knit has to be the one I’m making at the moment. Selbu Modern hat has a sweet little pattern dancing all over it……and it’s free. What’s not to like?
Love the hat pattern!
My favorite knitting this year is a pair of syncopation socks out of Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock Yarn. Colors are beautiful and pattern is easy to memorize. Can’t wait to wear them.
Lovely hat! I have started knitting little stuffies for my grandkids at Halloween and Valentines time. They are quick knits that bring a lot of joy to the kids when they get them in the mail.
My cheerful knitting right now has been Picnicknits’ 10 Yards a Day MKAL…the clues have come every 3 days, short amounts and we almost all got done on time! Mine didn’t yet because I ran out of yarn and am waiting for more, but I’m still cheerful! haha!
My most cheerful knitting is knitting up sweet little preemie baby hats to give to the NICU at the hospital that my wee grandbaby was born two months early. When my grandbaby finally left the hospital, he left with a hat and blanket that someone loving knitted for him….who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?!
The knitting that cheers me the most usually includes colors, and often those colors include pink or red (or purple or blue…). It’s always great to add a motif from nature into that mix.
My cheeriest knitting was a chevron baby blanket in gray, yellow and white for my grandson. Still makes me smile when I see it!
Any leaf pattern and especially the Green Tea shawl by Mia Rinde. I love these cuffs and the hat. Perfect .
My cheeriest bit of knitting is a hat I knit with my Handspun. I loved using something I made and it was simple and wonderful. I did it for a gratitude KAL and that made it more special. Overall most knitting is cheery to me especially with happy colors. I love making things with my hands.
Most cheerful knitting I’ve done was 2 squid stuffies out of brightly variegated yarn for my daughters. I’ve been admiring your cheerful knitting on IG & can’t wait to make this set!
