Diluvian (plus giveaway)
It’s possible I shouldn’t be this entertained by a sock. In fact I probably shouldn’t be (or at least I shouldn’t admit in public). But I can’t help it. Diluvian hit pretty much every one of my sock sweet spots, and I’m delighted to bring them back out.
Now in my heart of hearts, I think it’s hard to beat the fit of a basic ribbed sock. But I also find basic ribbed socks boring…boring to knit, boring to look at, just totally not worth the trouble. But give them a bit of a twist? Sneak in some dropped stitches? Pay a bit of extra attention to the heel and the toe? All of a sudden you’ve got something that is a lot more fun. They’re still every bit as comfy as the classic rib, just ever so much more fetching!
Oh and if you’re as easily amused as I am, they’re also reversible. Take a look at the picture below, the sock on the left is right side out, the sock on the right is inside out. They’re almost the same (and of course just as cute on either side). It makes them a fantastic choice for those of you who like princess soles. Just knit them as written and turn them inside out.
And of course the yarn is one of my favorites. It’s Tern by Quince & Co, and it makes glorious socks. I mean I know I’m biased (my stash is more or less divided into ‘bucket of String Theory and Quince’ and ‘everything else’), but it really is nifty. It’s 75% wool, 25% silk. The silk does what nylon normally does in sock yarn (keep it sturdy) while also doing what silk does (give it just a tiny bit of shimmer and depth). It’s a perfect combo, and I’m a big fan of silk in socks. And of course Quince’s color are just right for these socks, where a nice solid keeps all the interest on the texture and makes your stitches look marvelously tidy.
Quince has two skeins of Tern for one of you to try it out for yourself. If you think they might need to come live with you, just leave a comment telling me how you feel about silk in sock yarn. Madly in love? Total upgrade from nylon? Never tried it? You suddenly need a list of all the silk sock yarns? There’s no wrong answer, I just want to know how you feel!
And while I can’t send yarn to everyone, I can give everyone a discount. You can use the code ENTERTAINED to get a dollar the price between now and Friday. Just put Diluvian in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code ENTERTAINED. You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, March 18, 2016 will be entered to win. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). I adore silk in socks. It makes my feet happyhappyhappiest!
I love silk in socks, especially in the spring. Great shine, durability, and adds a nice sleekness to the yarn.
I love silk in all my yarn! I haven’t tried it in my sock yarn yet, but I would love to try!
If I won yarn, I would use it to make my first pair of socks! On my fiber bucket list for 2016!
I haven’t tried the sock yarn blend with silk, but I sure would love to give it a knit.
I’ve never used a silk yarn for socks before–but your comments have me intrigued!
What a cute pattern! I would love to make them.
Silk in socks is Divine! I’ve tried it once before with socks and was very happy. Would love the opportunity to try with Quince and Co, thanks!
I love silk in sock yarn and would love to try this yarn; never used it.
Love using fingering weight yarn with silk to knit socks. It’s a bit of affordable luxury for your feet! 🙂
I’ve never worn handknit socks with some yarn. I didn’t realize that it could provide the same strength that nylon normally provides in sock yarn. I’d love to try it for myself.
Your sock design is gorgeous.
LOVE this pattern — and I have never used a silk blend yarn..PLEASE give me the chance to test-drive Tern!
I think silk in socks in fabulous. I also may think merino wool socks wear better then merino nylon…….
I think that sounds fabulous! I don’t know how I’ve never noticed that that yarn contains silk before but, alas, I haven’t ever gotten to try it.
I’ve never used a sock yarn with silk – I was always worried they wouldn’t hold their shape well. Now I’ll have to give it a try!
I’ve been wanting to try silk in a sock yarn for years, as I love the idea of strength plus sheen.
I just had to get the pattern:) But the yarn, NEVER tried silk in socks- would really love to!
I’ve never used wool/silk sock yarn to actually make socks, but I have to make sweaters and they are so lovely!
I’ve never used a sock yarn with silk–but you’ve convinced me that I should! Thanks for the great opportunity.
What a fascinating stitch pattern! I’ve never seen anything like it on a sock before…or probably on anything before. 🙂
I am a big fan of silk in sock yarn, particularly Spud and Chloe “Fine”. It makes socks that wear well, and a sweater made from Fine is one of my favorites.
What’s not to love about silk in socks, it’s definitely a lifestyle I could become accustomed to :-£
I’ve never knit socks with a silk blend but I’ve love to try. Thanks for the chance to win some yarn.

I didn’t realize sock yarn could hold up with silk. Sounds luxurious. And inspiring.
I have heard silk and wool sock yarn is suppose to hold up very well. Just bought some to try.
