Daunting
Respectable adults do not whine. Respectable adults certainly do not wine about anything so lovely as a giant pile of knitting ready for blocking. Respectable adults would not dream of doing any such thing, they wouldn’t even know how to start if you asked them to.
I, on the other hand, lacking something in both the adulthood and the respectability departments, may have looked at this pile (and that’s not all of them, there are four more on the way) and whined quite a bit.
But then the lovely folks at Inspinknity stepped in to save the day with their nifty blocking wires to save the day.
I’ve heard from lots of you that blocking wires make blocking curls much easier (which I believe…I’ve put upwards of 100 pins in a single curl before), and that Inspinknitty’s wires are the best out there. I’ll report back after I play with them a bit (I’m still gathering my courage, even with the right tools blocking fourteen big pieces is a heck of a project), but I think things just got a lot easier!
Big project, but the finished results will be soooo worth it. They look pretty good now, so they’ll be fabulous when done. You go, girl.
Yikes! It certainly seems reasonable to whine just a bit at that pile of blocking. But then it’s also lovely to share that little glimpse of all the gray with us. Can’t wait to see them blocked and beautiful.
May the blocking fairies be with you!
Wine and chocolate also help with blocking!
I don’t think I have met any respectable adults lately. At least, not respectable in the ways you mean here. 🙂
I do like my inspinknitty blocking wires. My recommendation would be to sit down in a cozy chair, and just thread the edges of a few onto wires. Spread it out a little over your knee to get a general feel for the effect, and decide if you want to add another wire (though I can’t see using more than three for a curl, and the third is optional). Then set it aside and do another.
Then after you have either run out of shawls or wires, put the whole pile down (in a pile) and go make a delicious snack, lunch, hot drink, etc, and come back to the pinning part later. Essentially, break it up a bit, instead of doing it all at once. 🙂 Maybe only pin one shawl at a time, taking breaks in between; though I expect that you’ll find the process of pinning so much easier than you’re used to, and you may feel like pinning several out at once. 🙂
Enjoy! 🙂
ooh, those look amazing! I just have the straight blocking wires, but I’ve aggressively curved one of them to help with blocking shawls. this looks like a really easy-to-store set!
Whine away….better you than me. Blocking is my worst thing. : )
