Gramercy (plus giveaway)
You know how some knitting projects just sort of seem like little magic tricks? Either they come together faster than they should, or they use less yarn than you’d expect, or they look so much fancier than they have any right to given how easy they are. Well Gramercy pretty much does all of those things! I’m delighted to bring them back out. They use a marvelous little lace motif that has a lot going for it. It’s easy enough to be a perfect introduction to fancy socks, but interesting enough that you won’t get bored, even if you’re a sock pro. It’s astonishingly stretchy, which means your socks will both fit comfortably and stay up all day. And it’s awfully pretty (which is half the fun of hand knit socks if we’re being honest)!
And, while this is a bit subjective, these totally feel like fast socks to me. All that open work means you use way less yarn than you’d expect, and using less yarn means you’re done in less time. Those are my size 11 feet up there, and that sock has a 7.5 inch leg, and it used all of 300 yards of yarn. That’s pretty much unheard of.
I want one of you to see for yourself how much fun these are, so I’ve got a skein of the beautiful Carnal yarn by Vice in this amazing blue to send to someone. Just leave a comment telling me the magic trick you most want your knitting to do to be entered to win.
And while I can’t send yarn to everyone, I can give everyone a discount. Just use the code MAGIC to get a dollar the price between now and Friday. Just put Gramercy in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code MAGIC. You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, September 4, 2015 will be entered to win. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only ship physical prizes to US addresses.
I love both magic wishes posted so far. 🙂 I would love to be able to knit simultaneously with typing or using video game controllers or reading web pages. Having to use my hands for other things is the primary thing that slows my knitting to a crawl.
Thank you for the giveaway and for releasing these lovely socks. 🙂
I’d like my favorite yarn balls to just keep going no matter how much I knit. Not even all the balls, just one or two in more basic colors that I could then alternate with some of the beautiful colorways I see all over the place!

I like for my knitting to be interesting. I don’t mind having to follow the chart all the way down to the toes if I’m happy with the result. and of course, it’s nice if they fit. : )
I would love for my hanks of yarn to wind themselves into tidy cakes – that would be a neat time-saving magic trick!
I want my knitting to magically weave in ends so I don’t have to!
I wish my magic to be all the ends woven in while I’m sleeping!
I LOVE this pattern and the fact that you say it knits quickly for a lace pattern…still have not as yet made a pair of lace socks!!!
Magic trick… for my needles to know what I am trying to do, especially when it comes to socks. Love your new pattern! Thanks for the chance to win a skein and your discount. 🙂
Beautiful socks!
I’d love it if my knitting could magically block itself. Blocking makes so many projects look better, but the actual act of blocking feels like laundry, not a fun hobby!
My wish would be that what I knit will magically fit me!
These are gorgeous! I wish my knitting would magically speed up a bit, so slow on long rows!
My knitting is perfect just the way it is. I love it just the way it is.
(Do you think saying that will keep it from screwing with me? no, me either, but I thought I’d try.)
The magic of gifting my knitting and having the recipient feel the love and joy I feel when knitting for others, combined with moments of awe inspired by the beauty of color–that is my wish.
I wish tails would magically weave themselves in.
Thanks for the contest and those socks are gorgeous!
The magic that I wish for is the gift of time. For every hour that I spend knitting that I would earn two hours more of knitting time. I know I’m dreaming and asking a lot but it would truly be magic! We need all that time to knit all the lovely patterns you create. Thanks so much Hunter for sharing your gift with us.
Once I’ve understood the process of knitting the particular item, (well let’s be honest it is pretty invariably SOCKS) I’d like them to knit up in a blink so that I can move on and develop my skills by learning the next magic trick!
Wouldn’t needle memory be awesome? The needles can guide me when I forget what somes next!
It would be magic if all the rails would weave themselves in and that very special yarn that was a splurge would never end.
neat way to stretch your yarn if you are running short.
Hah! I immediately knew what magic trick I’d like: Knit one sock and voila! there’s a pair.
Lovely color yarn and really cute socks!
The magic trick I’d like my knitting to do is to fit. I make gauge swatches and measure and take copious notes, and I end up knitting and reknitting and reknitting. It’s frustrating, disappointing, and disheartening to work so hard and still not get it right. No wonder my stash never gets any smaller. I’m knitting the same skeins over and over.
Duh! My magic trick would be to have enough time to do all the knitting I want!
Favorite trick: Automatically get gauge every time… and perfect fit… But the blocking/weaving in ends happened by itself, too, I’d appreciate that as well. And the socks look great, thank you!
Oh, these are sooo pretty!
And I would love to learn that magic trick:
While I’m knitting, the house cleans up itself . e.g.: for every end I’m weaving in a window gets clean, every round knitted means laundry done, every finished project would cause a proper house cleaning… you know what I mean? ;-P
Btw.: Thank you for this giveaway!
The magic I would most love is to be able to fix ANY mistake without having to unknit anything. This would keep my OCD at bay and make more time for knitting.
I love Gramercy and am looking forward to moving on to them soon!
The magic I want most from my knitting is that whatever I make gives as much pleasure to the recipient as it gave to me when I was creating it! In the last several years I’ve started my own tradition of giving my friends a pair of socks for their birthdays. I knit socks year round and put the gift socks in a basket and let them chose a pair – it is a big hit!
