So, the stash toss had a variety of benefits. First and foremost, it satisfied my ‘I am being overwhelmed by all my things and must throw them all away to reclaim any semblance of sanity’ urge (this urge falls upon me with alarming frequency). Second, it made a whole lot of extra room in my closet. And third, it allowed for some serious advance planning.
You know I’ve been bringing early patterns back out (Cataphyll and Louche are recent sock returns, and Plicate and Colophon are some of the returning accessories)? Well I really want to get pretty much all of them reworked and re-released. And one of the things I realized as I went through the stash was that I had a lot of eminently suitable yarn for just that project. So I did a bit of plotting, and a bit of asking, and devised a plan.
Left to right that’s String Theory, Schaefer, Solstice, Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Vice, Skein, and more Vice. Each and every one of them is about to go off to a valiant, talented, and alarmingly attractive sample knitter who will turn them into yummy projects (it’s looking like Sybaritic, Scatterling, Graupel, Arkadiko, Carom, Calcareous, and Gramercy, for those of you looking for specific patterns to make a triumphant return). Then they’ll come back to me for a photo shoot, and then go back to live happily ever after with their sample knitters.
I am ridiculously excited about this prospect. I’ve been itching to get patterns back out in the world, and this is the way to do it. And, there just might be more stash skeins paired up with each of these to use for prizes when the patterns come out, so I have a suspicion at least some of you are going to like this plan too!
So, if it were up to you, which one would come back out first? Either which yarn calls to you or which old pattern are you waiting for me to hurry up and put back out? I sort of want them all done and out tomorrow, but that poses some practical challenges. But I promise I’ll do my best!
I can’t wait to see what you do with the BMFA – I still can’t reliably figure out how to deal with the STR pooling, and am hoping for some inspiration.
Some of theirs are tricky! But the pattern with theirs (it was one of the sock club patterns a few years ago) does a good job of beating even the wildest yarn into shape. I think you’ll like it!
And, as a general hint, anything with wild colors is going to play better with patterns where some rows use more yarn than others. So things like elongated stitches or slipped stitches help a lot.
I adore Sybaritic, though I did already buy it on Ravelry before you removed it.
In which case you’ll get the shiny and much improved version for free when it comes out! Whenever I re-release an old pattern, anyone who bought the old version in the past always gets the new one as a pattern update.
It seems only fair! They were kind enough to buy things from me when I was newer at this and didn’t quite know as much as I do now, so I should totally send them then new ones as they come out.
Overall, I like all of these patterns, but if I have to pick…
Patternwise, I vote Scatterling because I’m a sucker for bold cables.
Yarnwise, I vote for the Vice that’s third from the right because Blue!
I think scatterling are the only socks I ever knit twice (once as a present for my grandfather, once as a pattern submission for a magazine). Given my sort attention span, that seriously says something good about the pattern!
And yes, that blue is going to be an awfully pretty hat. The yarn is in the mail, and the pattern has winged its way through the ether, so there’s an awfully good chance the pattern will be out in time to make the hat before next winter!
I love Calcareous – what a lovely sock! I think the yarn you picked for it is perfect, although I also love the BMFA and the String Theory colorways.
I’m one of those odd birds who loves pooling as well…
My vote is definitely for Scatterling! I love that pattern.
Was Graupel listed twice intentionally?
Whoops, goofy typo. The second graupel is really carom!
I vote for String Theory and Vice #1…those colors are absolutely beautiful. Since I am mostly motivated by the yarn and color, I’m picking based on yarn and not by pattern! 🙂
Graupel in either String Theory or Solstice, and you should send it to me and get the socks back next week. (I have no socks on the needles right now. Feeling a little desperate about that.)
I like Sybaratic and Scatterling best, but no need to take my wishes into account for this. I have SO many of your sock patterns already that I want to knit, so I can be patient. 🙂
I’d like to see Scatterling worked in either of the Blue Moon yarns.
