Peek
You know those websites that show pictures of what’s inside other people’s fridges or purses or closets? And you know how you’re always a tiny bit scandalized by something you see (how does anyone drink that much soda? Am I the only one with three chapsticks and no lipstick in my purse? Why am I not that tidy?). I think the knitter’s equivalent must be your work basket. Here’s mine.
What was that? Why yes, yes that is all yarn for the gray curls. And yes I do love them all. And no, even in mid January, the gray is still not getting to me. The real question is, what in there scandalizes you. Or better yet, what’s in your knitting basket right now?
P.S. The needle organizer is by Zig Zag Stitches (one of the sock roll ones I think). It’s awesome. I’ve had it since before I’ve been writing this blog, and it’s held up perfectly. The basket is a dvd basket from Target. It’s the perfect size (and it sits on a shelf on my end table and acts like a drawer…keeps the kittens totally out of it).
Nothing scandalous there, but very curious about that needle caddy hanging over the side.
Mine is much more scandalous and disorganized. But I swear that sparkly blue acrylic is just there so I can cast on for my 8 year old daughter’s next project.
Beautiful photo.
Amazing organization.
I like the all the grays.
In these days I have 2 sweaters in my basket. One of which is grey. I have just finished a little pair of socks. My first socks. I hope to be able to knit one of your pattern. I love them all.
I follow your blog (daily!)
My best compliments for your gorgeous patterns.
Ada
Tell me more about what I’m looking at here. What is that blue pocket thing? Did you make it? And all the needles–what’s your brand?
If this basket were mine, I would record all the ball band info on Ravelry and discard them as soon as humanly possible, then wind everything into balls and quarantine each project in its own little project bag. I am super weird about different foods touching on my plate, and I think it translated into my knitting basket. But I wouldn’t say it scandalized me that you don’t do that. More like made me hyper-aware of my own quirks.
That is one lovely basket! I don’t dare have an open knitting basket. There are just too many creative little children in my house that would want to “borrow” from it, lol! I do keep current projects in clear, zippered bags so I can see all the prettiness. 🙂
I wish my needles were organized that nicely… I also wish I could have a nice, convent work basket like this. Unfortunately, I’m in this awkward place in my life where I’ve moved once a year for the last 6 years. Until I find myself somewhere a little more stable, all my knitting supplies is in a relatively portable form.
That is awesome needle organization! Did you make that? I love it!
I’m jealous of your needle organizer and your pretty yarns. I have a knitting drawer, table, shelf and many bags, but no basket. A basket full of yarn with no lid is an invitation my cat has yet to refuse, so I stick with bags. Thanks for the peek!
What a lovely photograph of your basket, I do love the little pockets for the needles. No sign of any sewing needles though?
Right here at my feet is my knitting basket, it has half a dozen home made drawstring bags in it, one containing a seedling ‘curl’ project, the rest are socks. The basket also has a print out of your new book in it, post-it notes, some quadrille paper, a copy of KCC3 and my two zipped pouches containing my notions and needles. Actually it isn’t looking as tidy as it usually looks.
First, I love the grays! I AM scandalized by the organization of needles. My DPN’s are in Ziploc bags by size. I don’t use straights anymore and all circulars are in their trusty packaging in a drawer. In my knitting basket other than at least two current projects is a scale at the bottom and small clear waterproof bandages for blisters and a hefty nail file/sandpaper-type stick for dry skin.
I love gray! I find it calming and happy-making 🙂 Your basket looks pretty nicely organized, to me.
Why am I not that tidy? This is what I think when I see your beautiful basket, so well organized in a very clever way. Now I have to go and clean my mess.
Knitting basket? BASKET? As in, one basket?
Um…no. There’s the teaching basket, the current project basket, and the basket where I drop things depending on what needs to be in the teaching basket. And then the IKEA unit of yarn…
Your basket looks very tidy! And I love the grays.
I love it!
Your basket, your yarn…
I love it! I have way too many projects on the go, they are piled in a basket by the sofa with spinning fibre and needles, and then there is a bin of projects and random ones scattered about. I should have a heart to heart with my knitting and see what should be frogged
Seeing your basket full of grey yarns makes me:
1) want a basket of my own
2) get organized and
3) knit with all my grey yarn too.
I see that we both love grey yarn! I see that we both have our dpns in a fabric pocket organizer, although mine hangs on the wall. I just know that if I stored them so that the points are upright, I, or one of the children, or the cat, would somehow fall on them and impale ourselves. And, I see that having all the yarn there in the open basket (like I do too) DOES increase my desire to knit with it! Thank you for sharing your lovely basket.
I agree that there is nothing scandalous about your work basket. I love the big gold scissors, and that someone other than me has numerous DPNs of the same size.
I am amazed that your cats don’t get into it though. My late ginger love was always breaking my smaller bamboo needles getting himself nestled into my knitting basket. And I’m sure both he and his brother poked themselves more than once but didn’t care.
What I would like to know is: how many notions bags do you have? I can’t be the only crafter with…three, I think it’s three currently, well stocked notions bags.
Where are your eleventy-two million tubes of handcreme, lip balm, and lotion bars? Winter in Iowa, and I cannot moisturize enough.
