Caesious, First Curls KAL
So, I think we should do a knitalong for the patterns in Curls, don’t you? And I’m a fan of doing things in order, so we’ll start with the first pattern in the book, Caesious.
Now, I’m also a big fan of relaxed knitalongs. I am not a fan of stress or hard deadlines, so we’re going to make this easy. All the details for this one are over the KAL thread in my ravelry group. But the gist is knit this pattern over the next two months, show it off and talk about it in that thread, and some time after the KAL ends I’ll send someone who posted a picture of a finished project something fun in the mail. Pretty simple really! We’ve already got folks started, and their projects are amazing. We’d love to have you join us!
Oh, and for anyone wondering, the word Caesious means having a blue gray color. All the patterns in Curls are interesting color words. (It’s also used in botany to mean having a waxy blue gray coating, think the stuff on plums, but I’m in it for the color meaning.) There are two pronunciations (British and American) and you can hear them over here. And yes, it does excite my dorky little heart that it has all five vowels in order.
Will it make anyone feel better if I promise that the book coming out later this year has all easy-to-pronounce, easy-to-spell pattern names? I thought I should try one like that, just for the novelty.
I’ve been wondering what in the world the names could mean! Next book will have to just be “Shawl A”, “Hat B” etc. 🙂
Well, maybe not quite that easy. But all real live, normal words…words I can even mostly spell without double checking!
I have a dorky little heart too, and when you mentioned the vowels in order it made me think of Eunoia by Christian Bök. It has five chapters, each using only one vowel. It’s staggering- like nothing you have ever read.
Oh…oh my. I will have to go find that!
I love the idea of a relaxed KAL! I’m SO into the curls patterns 🙂 Looking forward to seeing lots of them knit up!
Me too, it’s SO much fun to watch things get made…probably too much, all things considered. But I don’t see it changing any time soon.
Oooh, I’m in! I have some handspun that is just BEGGING to become a Curl…
Love the idea of using handspun, especially as it’s such a short pattern repeat so you can use as much of the yarn as possible!
We have been having quite the challenge with some of the names, so I LOVE the pronunciation guide!
Hah, I totally sympathize. I’ll see if I can dig them up for each of the patterns as their KALs come up!
The pronunciation thing is really interesting. I’m from the UK and the website’s British version is pretty much how I’ve been saying “Caesious” to myself. Does the American version measure up to how those of you in the States would instinctively pronounce the word? The two are very different.
