Complect (plus giveaway)
The pattern for Complect, the lovely twisty cabled socks, is now up on ravelry. I’m smitten with them, so I’m going to indulge in some pictures, then we’ll do that useful information thing (complete with handy dandy yarn giveaway, so do read on).
These hit that perfect knitter sweet spot for me…there is enough going on to keep your interest, but not so much that they’re hard. They are appealing to both guys and girls. And they work in a bunch of yarns (the pattern is written for gauges of 7, 8, and 9 stitches per inch, so you’ve got a ton of flexibility). There’s really not much more you could ask for!
I’m sure it’s immodest, but I really do think they’re kind of charming. And a big part of that comes from the yarn. I used Pediboo Sport Tonal by Frog Tree in the color 1464. It’s an 80% superwash merino, 20% bamboo blend spun up into a lovely, bouncy, round yarn and then dyed with delightful, subtle variations. It was a delight to work with, and I’ve come to adore it. It’s is pretty much a perfect fat sock yarn (though really, it would work for a huge range of things if fat socks aren’t your cup of tea). And I’m going to send some of it to one of you so you can get to adore it too!
So, as I mentioned, it’s a grand fat sock yarn. So, if you’d like to win two skeins of this yarn for yourself, just leave a comment telling me how you feel about fat socks. Love them (so quick and cozy)? More a fan of skinny socks (I won’t judge)? New to the ways of fat socks and haven’t had a chance to try them yet (I have a suggestion…)? There’s no right or wrong answer, just tell me what you think!
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Saturday, January 10, 2015 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only send prizes to US addresses.
I like to knit on 2.75mm tiny needles to make fingerless mitts, I do a ton of those, but I only knit socks for my daughter, as sadly, I am far too hard on socks to wear nice ones. 🙂 But I will knit either fat or skinny yarn socks for her, I love both. Thanks for the chance to win such lovely yarn!
Love the new pattern. I do like big squishy socks but only to wear at home or when I’m camping. I love regular socks for everyday use (when I can wear wool socks anyway).
I love fat socks because my ideal cold weather gear (Southern California) includes wool socks and Birkenstocks. Great pattern, Hunter!
I love knitting big socks especially as I am a walker and walk a little over an hr every day-rain/shine or even snow. Nothing like a nice thick sock to keep my feet warm.
Cheers.
Love to make socks, always have a pair OTN, sometimes more than one pair. The new pattern Is very intriguing; it will not leave one bored!
I have yet to try them, but I think they look yummy! And SO quick!
Socks, all socks, in any incarnation, feed my soul and keep me knitting.
I love socks of all kinds! I can’t wait to knit these!
Nice blue socks. I like the new brown socks that are coming also. I’ve used the Pediboo yarn and really like it. I like the “fat” yarn because you finish your socks just a little bit faster. Second sock syndrome isn’t as likely either!
Although I’ve never knit a pair of fat socks for myself, my Gran has knit me a few pairs. And they’re very warm and cozy and absolutely perfect for indoor wear. However I hate how they feel in shoes, so I’ll never wear them outside of the house.
I so love doing cables! Squishy fat socks sound like they would be fabulous to wear on cold evenings paired with my comfy jammies while working on whatever is currently on my needles. I have never made socks before, but now may be the time . . .
Haven’t tried fat socks yet, but that Pediboo might change my mind! Or I might knit them for my daughter, who wears the socks I knit her around the house.
Jost downloaded the pattern; so excited! I’ve been waiting for this pattern for a long time. Thank you.
I love thick socks. And these are so lovely!
I love fat sock yarn because it knits up so quickly! 🙂 Skinny works too but it isn’t quite as satisfying. lol
I’ve never given fat socks a chance, since I’m so smitten with regular old fingering weight. I should really give them a try, though, since my poor frozen toes are in desperate need of more layers at this time of year!
What a great pattern. I’m on your tester email list, but had too much going on to volunteer to knit these. Just look at what I missed!
As a new-ish sock knitter, I can’t say that I have a preference for fat socks (or not). I’m looking forward to finding out what I think, matter trying a few patterns.
Finally, I agree: this pattern works just as well for men as women. Good thing, too: us guys need more than stockinette and ribbing in our socks!
I have only knitted socks with sock or fingering yarn. I would love to try fat socks, although I suspect they will spoil me horribly!
Fat socks, thin socks, tall socks short socks….love all the socks…want to knit all the socks
Love fat socks ’cause they go so quick! Thank you for the opportunity.
I love knitting socks, but so far mostly with fingering weight. However, the beautiful cables in Complect (which I just downloaded!) seem to beg for something squishier than my usual.
I LOVE making socks — fat yarn, skinny yarn, it doesn’t matter. The more texture in the pattern, the better. Thanks!
omg! love the color blue on the pattern socks! also, i’m a sock weight/fingering weight kind of gal, normally, and i knit so loosely. with sport weight, i’d probabl still need a wee 0 or something, aha! i’m finishing up a pair of socks now and need a new pair 🙂 but i’ve never heard of this yarn :O it looks awesome!
These socks are gorgeous! I like fat socks because it’s fast, but I prefer skinny sock yarn because it fits in my shoes better. 🙂
I almost always knit socks with fingering weight on US 0 needles/72 sts. It would be fun to have the chance to knit something a bit different. I do have a few pairs of socks with bigger yarn and they will be getting some wear this week as we descend into the deep freeze here in Wisconsin. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love the new pattern. I’ve never tried fat sock yarn … love knitting socks so I think I would be perfect to win this different-to-me yarn!
