Icterine & Cephalopod Yarns
There is something to be said for extremes. When it comes to cables, I tend to embrace the far ends of the spectrum. I find myself madly in love with both itty bitty one-by-one cables and with big swoopy cables that involve so many stitches that things crumple up in the middle and make marvelous shadows and channels. I’m guessing you can tell which one caught my attention here. I love the drama cables of this size create (all with very little work on your part), and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
When you’re making cables this big, you need a well-behaved yarn — one that will give you a solid fabric for the cables to pop out of, but still have enough drape to handle the cable gracefully. Bugga does the job perfectly. This particular skein came from Cephalopod Yarns, which is now (sadly) closed (and much very missed). If you manage to track down a skein, I totally recommend grabbing it up. Luckily, if you can’t find a skein from Cephalopod, the same yarn base is still available through lovely folks at The Verdant Gryphon.
Icterine is one of my favorites and i hope i’ll find a yarn which comes out like yours.
I love your designs. I own several of your books and have pre-ordered this one. Your designs are so creative and wearable.
This is my second favorite from the collection! It just looks so, incredibly cozy.
Beautiful! I visited VG and see they have a lovely selection. Ghostly Willow would look amazing.
I love the cables in this one .. lovely !
I have some Kenzie yarn I bought with this one in mind. Can’t wait to give it a try 🙂
I know you probably already have a plan for this and I should just be patient but can we discuss shawl pins? Like where I might source one? And possible options other than pins? I have never knit a shawl before and therefore do not own any pins. The curl I have chosen to make is definitely calling out for one though!
those deep and squishy cables make my fingers twitch to start Yet Another New Project…
That cable is simply scrumptious!
I have only recently discovered your patterns, but I am in LUV!
Icterine is calling my name, and MAY defeat my current yarn diet…..
Thank you for sharing your talent!
I have a stashed skein of Cephalopod Bugga, yeah!! Which leads me to the question…the pattern calls for 500 yds, my skein is only 400 yds. Now why would you do that ? 🙁 Ah well the patterns are adaptable. 🙂
This is so different and I need a change from my usual lacy shawls! I still have a number of skeins of Skinny and regular Bugga so not mourning the loss of Cephalopod as fully as others-I will get there when my hoarded skeins are gone. Love that yarn!
This is one of my favorite patterns in the book, love the cables and the way they drape. I’ve been eyeing The Verdant Gryphon for a while, it’s time to order some for my Curls.
I’m making all kinds of mm mmmm noises as you introduce your designs. This one, what can I say? It calls to me. I knit a cardigan out of Bugga before they went away, and I agree, it’s all that and more. I’ll have to e visit the verdant gryphon as I buy yarn for your book. Yum, right.
