Nacarat & Briar Rose Fibers (giveaway)
I’ve often confessed that I rely on several marvelous sample knitters to help me produce all the pieces you see in my books. There is just no way I could knit everything myself and still put out books at the rate I like to publish them. But every now and then, a piece tickles my fancy so much I just have to knit it myself. This is one of those (if you’ve been following along at home for some time, you may remember it making a brief appearance earlier this year). I love it (I have a well-documented weakness for orange), and I am having the hardest time leaving it safely in the Book Samples box instead of wearing it everywhere.
I suspect a significant part of its charm comes from the delightful Briar Rose yarn with which it is made. It’s a lovely, 100% wool yarn, worsted-weight, with a generous 550 yards per skein. And of course it comes in all of Briar Rose’s beautiful colors. But my favorite thing about it is that one of its four plies is crafted in such a way that it takes the dye more strongly than the others, giving it a delightful barber pole effect. I have absolutely no idea how it’s done (I suspect magic may be involved), but I love the extra depth it gives to the knitted fabric.
One of you can experience that, or any of the other Briar Rose magic, for yourself. Briar Rose has a $50 gift certificate for one of you, good for anything in their online shop. That’s a delightful prospect if ever there was one, and I know whoever wins it is going to be in for a treat. For a chance to win, just leave a comment telling me one thing that would find its way into your cart if you won (I’m personally eyeing the Wistful…that would be an awful lot of fun to play with).
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Thursday, November 27th, 2014 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to get the goodies to them. When you leave a comment, be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do get in touch with you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them.
I’ve heard wonderful things about their Sea Pearl yarn. I think some of that would make it into my cart.
I would have to have Nate’s Yarn Sport in colorway 151.

Nacarat was one of the patterns that attracted me in the book, so I’d love some yarn to do it. The barber pole effect of the Fourth of July sounds intriguing, but there is a colour in the Sonoma that I love, so I’d choose that. Interesting process to look through the Briar Rose yarns. since the co,our ways aren’t standard, I found myself looking first for colour, second for yarn content or weight.
Yep, Wistful, me too, maybe 357
I’d put it towards a sweater’s worth of Freedom. Targhee is gloriously bouncy (and you don’t see it often in yarns), and Briar Rose has such lovely rich colors.
I think this might be my favorite from your book as well 🙂
But yarnwise I’d choose a purple skein of Abundance. I have been knitting on size one needles forever (Viajante for a friend) and have done several projects in fine yarn in a row, I’d love to knit something substantial where I could actually see the progress. Somehow my stash seems to be mostly cobweb, lace and fingering weight with a tiny bit of dk and only small leftover balls of worsted.
I love the look of Sea Pearl #102
It would have to be Wistful in 350, that colour is just gorgeous!
Abundance is just beautiful.
I’m also a fan of the sea pearl 102
Nate’s Yarn – color 151. And there I go, back to the greens/blues again…
so many pretty things! the sea pearl 103 is my favourite, I think 🙂
I think I’d go for Charity or Sonoma. The bases all look wonderful, but the rich warm colors in these two are very appealing in the midst of this cold snap.
Loving the Fourth of July in 8219 a green and gold that would be stunning for Nacarat!
Sea Pearl 103 would make a beautiful anything!
There is a reason why Briar Rose is the craziest booth at rhinebeck. I would love to try Wistful.
I like dream weaver and am undecided on the colorway.
I love her “charity” — and color 143 looks dreamy. But it would give the shawl a very different feel from your orange!
OMG, I’ve got to be the biggest BRF fan there is!! I love everything Chris has, but Wistful is one of my all-time favorites. Or I might just try out the Sonoma 12399.
Charity, #134, may be in my shopping cart soon, whether or not I have a gift certificate!
I think I would get Sea Pearl or some BFL roving/top or maybe… I cant’ make up my mind!
It would be the Sea Pearl….
My choice would be Freedom 104. Thank you Hunter for the chance to win. I am about to download and print from my Ravelry library. Can’t for the book to get here.
Thanks again.
P.S. I listened in on Marly Bird’s The Yarn Thing podcast and her guest that day was Heather Ordover. She mentioned you by name and it was so fun to make the connection and know who (m)? she was talking about.
Silk brick or hankies to spin.
Sea Pearl! Wow! All the yarns are beautifully dyed. I’d probably bust my gift certificate because I’d want some 4th of July also to see that barber pole effect!
