Infuscate & String Theory (giveaway)
Most of the time, holes in your knitting are a bad thing, a cause for great alarm. But in this case, the holes in this piece are a very good thing indeed. I am hopelessly in love with the stitch pattern used for this Curl. I keep thinking it looks like kelp or seaweed or something else delightfully organic. And, just to continue the feeling, the stitch pattern naturally causes the edge of the piece to ripple just slightly, making for the most delightfully scalloped edge imaginable. I really couldn’t be any happier with it.
And of course you all know I adore String Theory yarns. At last count I had oh, um, let’s just say lots of patterns designed in their yarn (and there may well be more on the way). But this was my first time working with their Selku yarn. It’s a lovely, supple sport-weight yarn made of 50% merino and 50% silk. I swear the combination of String Theory’s amazing colors with the lovely rich silk results in a yarn that just glows.
And one of you lucky folks is in for a lovely treat. The masterminds at String Theory want to send one of you a $60 gift certificate. That $60 would be just right to grab two skeins of the Selku and make a piece just like this of your own, but there are so many tempting treasures on offer that I fully expect it to be hard to decide (I mean just look at all the goodies I dragged home when I last visited). If you think the gift certificate should be yours, just tell me what you’d buy with it? Would you load up on Caper Aran (aka my current favorite fat sock yarn)? Or would Selku be your choice? Or would you find something else all together? You really can’t go wrong, just let me know what grabs your eye!
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Thursday, November 27th, 2014 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to get the yarn to them. When you leave a comment, be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do get in touch with you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them.
The caper sock in charcoal is gorgeous, but sadly it’s out of stock. Luckily the cobalt was a closr second in stealing my attention…I might be on a sock yarn kick 🙂
I’d probably go for Caper Sock as well, maybe Alexandrite. I could easily change my mind though, so many luscious choices.
Selku in Alexandrite. It looks gorgeous and I don’t have enough DK yarn.
Probably the Caper Sock in Alexandrite and/or Winterberry. The colors are spectacular, and I’m pretty sure there’s a rule saying you can’t have too much fingering weight yarn regardless of your stash size.
The first time I saw this my jaw dropped and I started drooling. It’s happening again. This is my absolute favorite design, not only from this collection, but perhaps that I’ve seen this year. I think I’d like to do this in the Black Cherry colorway.
The String Theory website may have made me drool. Just a little.
I can’t decide what I’d go for first: Caper Sock in Dark & Stormy, Damselfly, Kiwi, Muninn? Or Caper Aran in Firecracker, or Juice? (Look! Not green or blue!!) I think Infuscate would look amazing in the “Juice” colorway…
I would stock up on Bluestocking in Norther Lights. I imagine a hat and mitts set, with maybe a short sock, for when I am actually in my deck watching the aurora. And what female writing MFA could pass up a yarn called Bluestocking?
Congratulations on this amazing publication!!! As an avid lace knitter, I LOVE and can’t wait to get my copy.
Right now, I’m loving Caper Sock for gift knitting, but for my lace knitting I enjoy Selku (black Cherry and Charcoal) and Bluestocking…all colors, please! Can’t find a favorite…just one in stock. Can’t wait to get started on more knitting for me after the Holidays! Best to you!
Just pre-ordered your book!M! I popped over to the String Theory site and love the Blue – faced sport! Tulip, Delft, copper…. Aw, heck…. I loved a LOT of the colours.
I would go for either the Selku or the Bluestocking. The colours are gorgeous but the damselfly really calls to me.
String theory is one of my favorite yarns, too. It a difficult decision but I would probably choose Selku, which I have not used before, or Caper Aran. Thank you for the wonderful giveaways!
I might get Selku, but I also love me some Caper Aran – Cedar, Winterberry, Vert, Lupine… This wouldn’t get me SQ, but it would get me halfway there 🙂
I would love to try Selku.
The selku looks amazing in that shade of green. I would treat myself to that!
What beautiful, beautiful things – it’s not my usual thing at all, but I’m seized by a dreadful and irresistable urge to make Infuscate – and that yarn’s perfect.
North Haven, obviously.
Beautiful things…..
Selku would definitely be my choice! I’ve not tried this base before and it looks lovely!
I’ve used the Caper Sock and it was lovely but I would like to try something new. And since you so conveniently supplied a new pattern, Selku would be my choice too.
If a gift certificate were to come my way I would order 3 skeins of merino dk in the color “beach plum”. Who knows what it would become, but I would love to stare at the skeins and day dream.
Bluestocking Caramel – YUM!
I keep wanting to visit their actual shop, but it’s a serious hike from here if I’m not already staying over in Maine for something. So I have to wait for the shows to shop in person–it’s always worth it!
This is such a great collection. I’ve not been a scarf/shawl person, but I’m trying. They’re so warm and pretty, and such a great way to use those skeins of hand-dyed that I just had to have, but that would look not right as socks.
Selku in Black Tulip. Or the caper sock. Really I don’t think you could go wrong with anything that you order from them! Janetlatifa on Rav.
I want one exactly like yours. Selku in that wonderful green
Selku in Black Cherry or Lodestar or North Haven – so hard to choose! Such an interesting pattern, I cannot WAIT to get the book.
I love string theory & can’t wait for this book to come out!)
The moment I saw the patterns in Curls, this one really caught my eye. I love green fibers and this one really seems to glow. I would definitely get the supplies to make this exact thing…how boring, right?
