Argent & Anzula (giveaway)
If I’m being honest, I’ll confess that my own personal difficulty wearing shawls was a significant motivating factor in making this book. I’m really not good with shawls. On a bad day, even scarves have been known to prove challenging. The whole goal of Curls was to make pieces even I could wear. But, even in a collection of easy-to-wear wraps, one is still going to win the title of easiest of all. And it simply must be this piece. I swear I was absolutely spoiled for choice when it came to pictures of this one. Every way you put it on, it looks beautiful. I’m convinced it makes me look taller, more clever, and at least 15% more interesting. Imagine what it will do for you!
The delightful yarn from Anzula is a big part of this magic trick. It’s the merino, cashmere, nylon blend we’ve all come to love in sock yarns, but spun up in at a lighter weight (somewhere between lace and fingering) and a with looser twist. The result is something that is perfect for wraps – airy and light with beautiful drape, but still sturdy and easy to work with. And I swear the color (Anzula does great grays) goes with every single thing I own.
The lovely folks at Anzula want to see if they can add this piece to your wardrobe too. They’ve got two skeins of Cloud in this lovely shade (it’s called Seaside) to give away. That’s enough to make two great big Curls, so let’s have two winners! To enter, leave a comment telling me how you get along with shawls, (Do you have the knack of them? Or do they sometimes seem to elude you? There’s no right or wrong answer, just tell me what your experience is!) or pin this image. I’ll pick one winner from comments and one from pinterest (it’s fine to enter both ways).
Comments left and pins made between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Thursday, November 27th, 2014 will be entered to win. I’ll pick winners, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to get the goodies to them. When you leave a comment, be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If you win by pinning, I’ll leave a comment on your pin letting you know you’ve won. If I do get in touch with you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them.
Sometimes I get it right, and other times the shawl-wearing knack eludes me. Mostly, I am uncreative. I can drape it like a scarf or kerchief-cowboy style and hope the yarn or design will do the rest!
I’m getting better at wearing them. For a long time I didn’t knit shawls because I didn’t think I was a “shawl wearing person”. Now I don’t really care. I love knitting them, so I wear them no matter what.
Shawl wearing has never presented a problem for me. They seem to magically stay where I put them. My shawl wearing challenged friends are envious.
It depends on the shawl’s shape – I’m not a fan of triangle shawls, but basically anything else (crescent, circle, half circle, Faroese, etc) works great.
I wear them like a scarf. Sometimes I will tie it at the end and wear over one shoulder. Kinda sexy…
I’m finding shawlettes easier to wear, but then they are like fancier scarves. Shawls get too all over the place for me. Thanks for the generous giveaway!
Interesting, that you designed these shawls to be easy to wear. I am always perplexed by shawls and scarves, mine invariably look like strange wads or are at the point of falling off. I do like garter based larger shawls, I have a faroese one that I wear kerchief style, deepest point up front, and a moon shape that I also wear kerchief style. I used grippy rustic wool for those and they tend to stay put. The rest that I have knitted I have either given away or sent to languish in the back of the closet. I will be watching you designs closely on ravelry, because my first impression was: lovely and fun to knit designs but how on earth do you wear those! Yeah. I’d say I am definitely shawl/scaf challenged 🙂
I love my shawls. 🙂 However I keep finding the need to make another as the seasons change and new clothing colours come into my wardrobe! Maybe this colour is the solution! LOL
I struggle with shawls. Do all short people have this problem, or is it just me?
So I’m trying to find a shape that works for me. In the meantime, I’m having a LOT of fun acquiring new yarns…and a “giveaway prize” one would be awesome, too.
I only have one store bought shawl, and I tend to wrap it around my shoulders and tie it in a knot in front of me, so I don’t have to think about it. I’m excited to see what kind of shawl wearing experience I’ll get out of your shawls. 🙂
Thank you to both you and the lovely folks at Anzula for the giveaway. 🙂
I love to wear any accessories for the neck being sensitive to sun it gives me protection so I would say I have a knack
I love shawls, but I’m envious of women who seem able to just “throw them on” and they look stunning. I end up putting a shawl on, rearranging, fussing, taking it off, trying again. I never feel like I have it right, but that doesn’t stop me from making and loving them.
Mostly, I get it wrong! I’ve tried using a pin and it seems like I can never get it situated where it doesn’t look goofy. I love shawls! I love making them and looking at them on my mannequin. But maybe I don’t have the right ‘attitude’ to wear one successfully? I can’t wait to try out the lovelies in this book!
Love them but need shawl pins to holdin place as they slip and slide on my shoulders.
I love to knit shawls. I tend to wear them with the ends hanging in the front and prefer triangle shawls. I have recently knit my first crescent shawl and really like how it looks but find it’s not as easy to wear as the triangle shape. They’re so handy to throw on to add a little extra warmth.
I too need a shawl pin; without it they are all over the place and mostly on the floor as I’m not used to wearing shawls so when they slip off I don’t always notice.
You had me at “They do great grays.” I have made a few small shawls for myself, and I find I can wear them, but I only know how to wear them one way. Anything beyond that one way is too tricky for me. Maybe one of these patterns will help me figure out some additional options!
I love wearing them as modeled in the 2nd picture but a shawl pin does wonders when you really want to see the beauty of the full shawl.
I LOVE wearing shawls! Shawls make up close to 90% of my knitted items. Mostly I like to wear them as scarfs or kerchiefs, it’s very rare that I wear them in a traditional sense.
I’m OK with the shawls but they do tend to slide off my shoulders … do I droop? Hmmm … maybe it’s me and not the shawl! No way!!!!!! Hahaha!
I wear my shawls wrapped around my neck, so I like them more crescent shaped. I like the warmth without a lot of bulk. Realized the other day I may need to knit some “neutral” shawls. I went out wearing 3 different knitted accessories, each in its own yummy “look at me!” variegated goodness with the overall effect of looking like a yarn shop exploded on top of me.
The long edge of the shawl seems stretched out when I try to wrap it around my neck. It seems to fold over to the back side of the piece. I’ve looked at other shawls and the construction is the same. I am interested to see if the curl shape of your shawls will help with this problem.
I usually put a scarf/shawl on and off at least t10 times before it looks “ok” but the a few minutes later it looks messy again. I have great hope for these new designs as I have found asymmetrical shawls are the easiest for me to wear.
Love to make them, shawls usually end up spiraled around backwards or falling off. But honestly, it’s the gray in the picture that got me. That yarn is gorgeous!
