We’ve chatted before about the process of picking yarns for a book.  I’ve explained that it’s both tremendously fun and more than a bit nerve-wracking.  Imagine it — you start with a blank slate, and you can pick whatever yarn you want.  Now that’s exciting, but it also leaves me a bit paralyzed with indecision.

But, one of the fun parts that often happens during that process is getting to know delightful yarn companies.  The people who work in this industry really are the nicest folks you could imagine.  They’re always excited about new projects and eager to share their work with designers.  It’s not unusual to find a package on your doorstep, just so you can see bases or colors or new goodies in person.  And really, that’s always fun!

However, with all that yarn whizzing back and forth, you are bound to end up with a few skeins that aren’t destined for the book.  Now, I always offer to send them back, but sometimes yarn companies are nice enough to tell me to keep them.  I feel like I should share the wealth a bit, so I want to start giving some of these lovely skeins away to you!

Today, we’ll start with a beautiful skein of Mountain Colors Crazyfoot in the color Harmony Honey.

mountain colors crazyfootThis is a delightful yarn.  A classic sock weight, with 4 firmly twisted plies, it’s marvelously round and springy.  It’s 90% superwash merino and 10% nylon, so it is easy to care for and will wear beautifully.  And I’m absolutely smitten with this particular shade of yellow (and we all know how I feel about yellow socks).  It’s got just enough variegation to provide lovely depth without ever running the risk of obscuring your fancy stitch work.

I’d like to send it off to one of you along with any one of my available individual sock patterns.  If you think it might like to come live with you, leave a comment telling me what you look for in your ideal sock yarn.  Do you need a bit of nylon or a tight twist for durability?  Is it all about the color?  Are you particular about the thickness of your sock yarns?  There aren’t any right or wrong answers, it’s totally a matter of opinion, I just want to know what you like!

Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, August 8, 2014 will be entered to win.  I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their address, and arrange to send the yarn their way.  If you’re leaving a comment, be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner).  If I do get in touch with you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them.  Sorry, but I can only send prizes to US addresses.

P.S. This giveaway is now closed and a winner has been contacted.
