Adumbrate
The revamped and rereleased pattern for Adumbrate is now up on ravelry. Pics first, but do read on, as I’ve got yarn to give away! These are another of my early patterns, and I was delighted to redo them. We all know I’m a sucker for fingerless mitts (seriously, I have a whole wardrobe of them, some to match all of my pajamas, and I wear them all winter long). These are quick and fun to knit (they’re the ones that did the neat three-pronged thing when I was knitting them), and I am pretty sure most self respecting stashes have a perfect little bit of DK weight yarn waiting around to make them. You could totally have a pair of these finished by the end of this weekend.
I made mine out about 130 yards of Dream in Color Everlasting DK leftovers, but I’m totally going to hook one of you up with a skein of the same yarn to make your own (the color I’m giving away is Tidal, instead of the Raincloud I used here, but both are lovely shades of blue). To enter, either leave a comment on this post telling me how you feel about fingerless mitts (pro, con, not yet properly introduced…there is no wrong answer), or pin one of the pictures in this post (either click the pinterest button at the top of the post or you can click on the ‘Pin it’ button that comes up when you hover your mouse over the picture itself).
Comments left and pins made between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Saturday, August 2, 2014 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their address, and arrange to send the yarn their way. If you’re leaving a comment, be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If you win by pinning, I’ll leave a comment on your pin letting you know you’ve won. If I do get in touch with you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only send prizes to US addresses.
P.S. The winner has been notified, thanks to everyone who left comments!
Lovely! Maybe will help keep mosquitos from biting also when they are worn in the summer!
I live in Austin, so fingerless mitts are great! Never gets super cold here in the winter. Thanks!
I love fingerless mitts while walking a mile to and from the Metro station to work – they are perfectly wonderful!
“not properly introduced” sums it up nicely! I have been toying with the idea of a pair of fingerless mitts but haven’t gotten around to choosing a yarn and a pattern yet. These are gorgeous!
I enjoy making fingerless mitts, but I have yet to really wear them. I should remember to bring some next time I fly – I’m always freezing on airplanes.
I love fingerless gloves. Sometimes my office is cold, and fingerless gloves are just the thing to wear so I can still type. I’ve made lots of them for gifts, too. In fact, there’s a pair on the needles right now for a friend who requested one with dinosaur spikes running along the center top!
I am completely pro on the subject! Fingerless mitts are great for driving and, more importantly, they let me type my thesis when the heat went out and it was 50 degrees in the office!
my friend is a fingerless mitt fan, so, this would be a good gift idea!!
I love fingerless mitts. I wear them a work a lot (even in the summer), because the a/c is always set too cold…the heat is too. My mouse hand gets cold and stiff. Ugh!
Totally pro — and so are my giftees! For the last few years all loved ones have received hats and fingerless mitts (for the ladies) and mittens (for the guys). Except my son, who insisted on fingerless, to keep his fingers warm for his computer gaming! Turns out EVERYONE wants fingerless!
awesome milts, the color is gorgeous!
I love fingerless gloves. I have yet to knit any real gloves or mittens as fingerless mitts seem perfect for Texas winters. : )
I love fingerless mitts! They offer warmth without sacrificing the ability to text, hook dog leashes and many other useful things. My husband loves coolness, so in the winter I sometimes wear them indoors in the 66 degree temperature and I can knit with them on. I have a number of colors-mostly in the brown/rust colors with black and gray too but nothing in the blues. Just saying…and I LOVE Dream in Color and have one skein in fingering weight and none others.
I’m a sucker for fingerless mitts as well. I don’t know why I keep making them because it’s the last thing you’d want in your wardrobe with the kind weather we get in Dubai!
These look like fun though and yes my stash would probably have a skein of yummy DK that would suit.
I thought fingerless gloves were a dumb idea until I went on a trip to a cold weather place and couldn’t manage a map (back when we used paper naps) with my gloves on. The pair I then knit has been unbelievable useful. I love them!!!
Love fingerless mitts especially in our chilly old house in the winter
Oh, I love fingerless mitts!
They dress up every boring coat!
They make wonderful (and fast knitted) gifts and everyone wants some!
And you have to search for something in your big (and always overfilled) handbag?
No problem- your fingers are FREE- no need to put them off! 😀
Can you believe I’ve knit these things for my grandkids and a friend, but not kept any for myself? Gotta fix that soon.
I love love love fingerless gloves. My hands and wrists get so chilly in the winter. Love the patten 🙂
I just finished knitting my first pair of fingerless gloves for a friend’s 75th birthday. I love them. I feel a very strong need to make several pairs for me. Yours would be a lovely addition. Some cable some not so fancy lace. I like your set in thumb which looks more organic than the one I made. Thanks for enabling all of us.
I’m pro–they are a fast, fun project 🙂
pro mitts! perfect for LA “winter.” 🙂
Love everything about them, and can’t wait to make a new pair with your revamped pattern!
I wear them all the time ! I live on the Oregon Coast and the winter is damp and cold.. so my hands love fingerless mitts !
I love fingerless mitts. I already have Adumbrate in my Ravelry Library, though I haven’t made it yet. I have, however, made several pairs of fingerless mitts. My husband loves them, too! I made him a pair of Lepidoptera Mitts (photo available on my Ravlery Projects page – ravetar is shlomadina) and he wears them while he writes (poetry). He looks like the original “poet in the garret” when he writes! We live in the Adirondacks and fingerless mitts are perfect for cool summer days, rainy days, the fall, winter – heck we wear them practically all year round!
