Colophon
The freshly revamped and rereleased pattern for Colophon is now up on ravelry. Pics first, then info, but do read on because I’ve got yarn to give away too!
I know these are simple little bits of knitting, but I admit I’m rather taken with them. They work in any sock or fingering weight yarn and need shockingly little yardage. The sample shown here used 125 yards of Space Cadet Creations’ Ester (shown here in a custom club colorway, but if you are looking for a purple, their Plume is smashing and will fill all your purple needs). In addition to working magic with tiny amounts of yarn, these are also astonishingly stretchy. They measure about 5 inches unstretched, but comfortably stretch to over 9 inches. The sample shown here fits Laura (she’s graciously modeling them for me), fits me with my giant man hands, and fits The Boy (with his even bigger and more manly hands). All that, and they’re easy to knit too (it’s just a 4-row repeat, you’ll have it memorized in no time). I’m not really sure what else to ask for!
But, because I love you all and want to make you happy, I do have one more little treat. The amazing Stephanie, genius behind Space Cadet Creations, is going to hook one of you lucky folks up with enough yarn to make a pair these mitts of your own. She’s awfully nice that way. So, if you think it should be you, go check out Stephanie’s fingering weight yarns, then come back and leave a comment telling me which is your favorite and how you feel about fingerless gloves.
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time) Sunday, May 18, 2014 will be entered to win. I’ll pick a winner, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send yarn their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. Sorry, but I can only send prizes to US addresses.
One more pic because I want to and it makes me happy! And one more shameless link to the Colophon page on ravelry in case they might make you happy too!
If I used Celeste, I would have enough leftover for a pair of socks! That’s a magical skein. I love Dark Skies and Cove. I wear fingerless gloves a lot–esp. at work since I can still type with them on. I also knit them as gifts quite frequently. This looks like a great pattern!
I like Izarra in the colorway usui. Fingerless gloves are one of my favorite things to make. They are so quick and versatile.
Love these mitts. Thanks for the chance to win
I think the Izarra would be perfect! And that Oxblood color is luscious. I love fingerless gloves and made a pair for everyone in my family. Even my teenaged son wears the pair I knit him — perfect for his on-line gaming!
Love the color Izarra. I’m a big fan of fingerless gloves because I live in the South. We don’t need heavy mitts.
Izarra looks like a fantastic yarn! I love BFL. I struggled with fingerless mitts (wearing them that is) until I saw my lovely fashionable friend Sophie wear them, now I will definitely add some to my hand knits!
Wow, gorgeous! Love the mitts and fingerless gloves in general.
so many pretty yarn colors – I would have a hard time choosing between Plume, Dark Skies and Dark Moana.
I think the Izzara would be perfect for mitts, since my last foray into BFL yarn was so touchable and soft. And those colors!!
Yes to Izarra yarn. I love BFL and how soft and durable it is. And she provides such tempting colors for you stylish gloves. What a combination.
I’d have to choose Ester, although choosing just one is so not fair! I love fingerless mitts for my chilly house, car, etc. that way I look elegant (or so I fondly imagine) while keeping my hands cozy enough to read, write and knit!
Celeste in honey would be amazing! I love fingerless mitts, especially for the office!
Feather and Dark Skies kind-of take my breath away. So deep and pretty.
Ester and Celeste both look interesting. I was impressed by how many choices in yarns and colors are available!
The mitts… I love the idea that these are so flexible in their fit – I have “man hands,” too. Love the texture of this pattern – and the fact that I don’t have to think too hard to produce the texture would be nice for a take-along sized project.
Im in love with the Headstrong colorway of Aurora! Just gorgeous! And I can see this pattern leading to a number of holiday presents….
Aurora is beautiful but then they all are. I don’t get fingerless mitts but then I’m a naturally hot person. I do like making them for swaps though since the rest of the planet seems to love them. : )

I’m a fingerless glove addict. I admit it. They are just so great to make and so useful!
I think I’d want to try the Izarra as I haven’t worked with many non-merino wools. And the colors are all so rich!
such beautiful mitts and fast to knit. just a win-win all around.
I can’t seem to choose between Izarra and Lucina, or colorways Plume or Silver. Such problems! I love making fingerless mitts for family members, is it time to make some for myself?
I love fingerless gloves, I use them all winter long ! and I also love the Space Cadet Yarns ! I think that the Aurora would be lovely for these gloves !
I’m a newbie when it comes the fingerless but am getting better! I like the Aurora.
Ooo, those are pretty. I’ve never tried Space Cadet Yarns – I think I need to check them out.
Thanks for your generosity!
I like the Izara! I like high twist and long staple wool. I use fingerless gloves to knit while I walk in cooler weather. Unfortunately in Montreal that window is so small… it’s winter mittens and then flip flops!
I have made fingerless gloves for myself to keep hands warm at work and believe the celeste incorporates all the colors I like.
I love to do the mitts in the Celeste. Fingerless mitts are so practical these days with so many people using their phones.
Aurora would be my choice. Who could resist that bit of cashmere? I use fingerless mitts in the house in the winter. We don’t turn the heat up much.
Love the Izarra and Ester! And fabuous job on the mitts and such a small amount of yarn for so many sizes. Remarkable indeed!
