What was that? You’re concerned I don’t have enough tea?
I understand. I share your concern. That’s why we have the back up tea storage in the drawer, and the bulk tea storage (for refilling these jars) in the pantry.
I dearly dearly want to paint the inside of this cabinet bright yellow and paint the inside of the cabinet door with chalkboard paint for making grocery lists on (I actually really want to hire someone to come repaint the whole kitchen this summer, but I’m not sure if that will be feasible). I’m just concerned that the raw wood will eat all the paint and make it a huge hassle (I think the answer is primer, but I’m not sure, and it’s making me hesitate…that and my deep laziness). Somebody wanna come do it for me?
Maybe invite a friend over for “paint day”? It would be more fun with company.
I’d come help, but alas, I am too far away……and I’d want to paint it blue. : )
Maybe one of those self-priming paints? You can ask someone at the paint store. I think you can rent a paint sprayer, that’d make it go a whole lot faster.
It’s that dirty word “swatch” that once again holds the answer to the paint project success.
Chalkboard paint usually contains the primer, and you need to apply two layers to make it work. That should do the trick.
One warning on chalkboard paint though: everytime you see it in the magazines or blog, it looks so nice, super clean and everything. The truth is, for it to work, you have to entirely fill it with chalk, then wash. And everytime you use it, it leaves a little pile of dusty chalk on the floor. Something no one tells you about is that it ends up looking dirty and you have to constantly dust, broom, or wash under it. But it is fun….
I also had the same idea for the inside of my pantry cupboard. The truth is, jotting down the grocery list there is unpractical, I never got the hang of it and went back to the old paper pad stuck on the fridge.
Upon further consideration, I’m actually thinking that buying some of the white board material and cutting it to size might be more practical. Less messy, less painting, more chance to lose a finger using tin snips.
Mount a tack board there. The white boards get grey and over used looking too. That is why college kids want a new one every fall for dorm doors. Put a bulletin board there and give a home to lots of clutter that is other places in the kitchen. Include a larger pad of lined paper mounted on the board and you can write shopping lists there that are tear and go.
I vote for cork board. You can by it by the yard and cut it to size. I would totally be up for a paint day for the inside though. I’ll bring the painters’ aprons so we can totally look the part.
My hero. You’d better be careful though, I just might take you up on that! And I love that you have painter’s aprons.
Dude, that tiny amount of space needs primer first and you’re debating it? Go for it, and then the chalkboard paint. It’ll be awesome.
You’re underestimating just how lazy I am and how much I hate painting. You’d be amazed how long I can put a project like this off. It took me 8 years to get around to changing my pantry knobs.
I am of zero help in the paint department (but I like the idea of a cork board better for some reason… Or maybe one of those that are half cork, half white board?)
But I am in LOOOOOVE with your cupboard. LOVE. Drooooool.
I am with you on the laziness factor, and I personally love the wood look, at least as it is presented in your photo. Maybe it woulkd be different in person, but I wouldn’t change it.
I also vote for the tear-off-and-take-along grocery list. Much easier than remembering to rewrite it before you go.
Ah, there’s no re-writing. There is ‘take a picture with your cell phone before you go.’ Much easier!
