Uncharacteristic
I’m doing something odd. I’m knitting a plain sock. A very plain sock. A nearly alarmingly plain sock. See?
(And because you’ll ask, yes, it’s String Theory, of course it is!) I can’t tell if this is a passing phase, a new trend, or a sign of some sort of incipient stroke. Somebody tell me, is this pretty, or have I lost it and am I knitting a boring sock?
The yarn is lovely and sometimes life is busy and we need a plain vanilla sock.
And it’s so so so fast. I (I who am an alarmingly slow knitter) finished the leg in one afternoon. I think I’m far enough in I’m committed!
Christy is correct. The yarn is lovely and a hand-knitted sock is never plain vanilla……ever!
Or maybe it’s really good vanilla…like a perfect vanilla creme brulee…with a crispy topping and little flecks of vanilla bean and a perfect texture. Soothing, but skillfully executed and satisfying in large part because it’s soothing.
Sometimes it’s good to let the yarn talk & that yarn is telling a good tale! 😀 It certainly looks like honeycomb to me..yum!!
Aaaaaand now I will go make myself a cup of tea (with lots of honey) in your honor!
This style of sock was missing in your repertoire. I certainly am looking forward to the end product. My guy wouldn’t wear anything but that.
Hah, there are a few guys out there like that! I’m lucky in that The Boy is a fan of crazy socks (colors and textures and all sorts of designs). Which is good, because I’d fall asleep if I had to knit plain guy socks!
But it’s not really plain, is it? The 1×1 rib looks different, somehow…fancier. Do you do something fancy with your purls?
Oh yeah, it’s not actually a 1×1 ribbing, it’s a funky slip/yo/dec dance. Lots of fun to do (feels really slick somehow) and has fabulous depth to it when it’s stretched (which you can’t see here, but can when it’s on). I’ll get a pic with it stretched a bit more for tomorrow!
That yarn and the word “boring” do not belong in the same sentence. Plus that rib pattern is 180 degrees away from boring. Following the progress of this sock is engrossing, better than the best adventure story, and I am on tenterhooks to see the next photos!
Mmmm pumpkin pie socks.
Not boring in the least. I want to see the stretched-out sock to figure out what’s going on there.
Actually, I’m falling in love with stockinette. Some yarns just need to shine on their own – like yours.
Love the pattern – and don’t tell me that isn’t a pattern!
Little more explanation of how you do it? Please?
Or if it’s going to be in the next book, I’ll preorder it right now. ;o)
