Space Cadet Giveaway
[Edit: The giveaway is over and the winner has been notified, thanks to everyone who entered!]
How about we take a little break from the trip stuff and do something a bit more traditional for a day, hmm?
Would you like to win some yarn? Specifically, would you like to win a skein of the amazing Space Cadet Creations’ Astrid DK in your choice of colors? I rather thought you might!
Astrid is what I used to make the Miscreant cuffs in Ne’er-Do-Well Knits. It’s delicious. A nice round 4-ply, 100% merino — sproingy and squishy and hugely versatile. I may possibly have a pair of matching skeins tucked away in my ‘fat yarn to make socks with’ bucket.
But we’re not here to talk socks, we’re here to talk cuffs. Specifically, these cuffs, which use the most ridiculously fun eyelet edging you will ever see (I promise it’s super easy, and you’ll want to use it all over the place) then segue perfectly into some tidy slipped stitch ribbing that both keeps you cozy warm (the slipped stitch makes it a much better wind break than plain old ribbing would be) and shows off the subtle variegation in Stephanie’s yarns perfectly.
I swear they’re the knitting equivalent of potato chips, you can’t eat knit just one. I am an alarmingly slow knitter and even I can bang out a pair over a weekend. On the off chance you may have started doing that knitterly math that considers the number of days between now and the holiday gifting frenzy, the number of people you’re planning to knit for, and the number of hours in a day, these could be a big help.
As for the yarn, you can easily get three pairs of Miscreant out of a skein of Astrid. Or, if you’re feeling like playing around a bit, you could almost certainly do a pair of Miscreant and a cute matching hat.
If you think a skein of Astrid might want to come live with you, go take a look around the Space Cadet Creations site and tell me what color of Astrid DK you might like best and what you think you might do with it. Leave a comment here by the end of the day (eastern time) Friday, and I’ll pick a winner early next week. (Just be sure to use a real email address, otherwise I can’t contact you if you win. I promise I won’t use the email for anything other than to contact the winner.)
I’d definitely choose the Beguile colorway & I think I’d knit the Jaquie Fingerless Flap Glove with it.
I would go with the Usui colorway. I think I’d like to knit a nice lacy shawl with it, or maybe a cowl. Definitely something with lace, though.
I’d choose the Dark Moana colorway and I think those cuffs would be perfect for a couple of folks on my gift list (note – I am always on my gift list as well).
I would pick the Gentle colorway as a stretch for my usual darker orange preference. I think it would make a gorgeous small shawl, although those cuffs are indeed calling me…
I would choose Honey because I am trying to step out of my color comfort zone lately! I would love to knit a cowl to keep me warm and cozy all Winter long!
I like cove!
sage or honey-probably a cowl and wristers
Hello Hunter. Those cuffs would be very cool for my nieces. And then of course something for a brand new baby girl scheduled to arrive mid December. The plume looks perfect. Thank you for this fun opportunity.
I would love to knit the cuffs in Dark Skies. I can think of quite a few people on my gift list who would enjoy receiving a pair of cuffs.
Dark Skies for your adorable cuffs and a cap
Fizz would be perfect for my husband who remains in need of the perfect hat
Cove! Or Moana. Or Dark Moana. Or maybe Plume? Oh dear. Not good at choices, am I?
But what would I make ? A pair of Hunter socks, of course. Which one? Well, now we’re back to choices, aren’t we?
Ooh, either Plume or Ke Aloha would make a lovely addition to my queue of mitts that are waiting for the right yarn.
They are all pretty!
I love the feather colorway. I would definitely have to make a pair of mitts for myself then maybe some little kiddo mittens to match!
So many great colors and color names!! I’d love to knit the ‘Upper East Side’ hat in the ‘How Dare You’ colorway. (But really, Dark Manoa, Gentle, Dark Skies, Sage, Honey, Plume…May have to rethink the Christmas wish list…)
wow–what a tough choice. I think maybe cowl would make the nicest scarf for a “certain someone”
Dark moana calls my name, and I’d probably do a cowl and cuffs set. That seems to be my gift plan this year.
Tough choice on the colorways, so many that I liked. Moana & Dark Moana are beautiful, so is Beguile.
I would probably order another skein & do a warm shawl.
Headstrong…and I’d make your lovely wrist warmers.
Oh, lovely! I’d make the Danima banksiae, or perhaps the Gnoman hat and/or mitts, both of which are in my queue! As for colourway, I’d probably choose Feather or Dark Skies.
I love the fizz colorway to make socks for my 12 year old brother.
Feather or Dark Skies for me! I’ve really been in a grey mood lately. (by “lately” I mean “forever”)
I’m predictable. I like Dark Skies and I’d make socks from it. Maybe Scoundrels or maybe Lycaena virgaureae Socks if I could figure out the math (I think I can. I think I can.)
Oh I just love her “dark skies” colorway ! and yes I would make some cuffs !!
