Look, Knitting!
Lest you think I’ve only been strolling about taking in the sights and eating delicious food, let me assure you there has been knitting too. Plenty of knitting.
It started when we took the sock to the ocean on Saturday. He enjoyed the view, but was a little worried the breeze would blow him away and he’d be lost at sea.
This was not a totally unfounded concern. It was more than a bit breezy, and he’d seen what had happened to socks at the shore in the past. The sock was somewhat reassured as he was still tethered to his ball, but he did veto any attempt to sail him like a kite.
The knitting continued, and in a day or so, the sock was finished. The time came to block him (which I always think of as sock yoga…I hope they enjoy it). This is where I realized that bringing one sock blocker (in some vain attempt to save space in the suitcase), was a poor plan. Two sock blockers really don’t take any more space than one, and having only one is much less convenient.
I persevered, and the socks are blocked. The Boy and I may go on a bit of a stroll this evening and see if we can find somewhere suitable to grab pictures. I think we’ll be able to find somewhere picturesque around here somewhere, don’t you?
Did you pull the needle out of the sock for the photo op? or is that an optical illusion?
Yup, yup I did. I couldn’t get on the log w/o both feet, and using both feet is tricky when one has needles. So I just yanked them out!
wowza! I think I’d have had my assistant toss up the bag o’knitting and people could have watched me put socks on atop a rock……..wait. did you take that photo yourself too while balanced on the rock? You’re my hero.
Oh no, The Boy was working the camera! And I could have clambered first then donned the sock (that would likely have been the smart kid choice actually), but it didn’t occur to me. The problem was mostly the wind. It was hard and constant and whipped my hair around so I could hardly see. We got it though, and the sock lived to tell the tale.
Well, I’m certainly glad the socks were none the worse for wear and look forward to more pics of these beauties. 🙂
Very brave on the sock needle removal. I am not that brave.
Nah, the knitting isn’t going anywhere. I wouldn’t have lost a stitch…if I hadn’t accidentally stepped on my yarn as I raised my foot. But even then only 2 or 3 stitches came undone, not hard to fix at all!
Wow, so you take a sock blocker with you on holiday! Your packing list must be very interesting!
Yup, and I swear I bring a small suitcase too! I brought a sock blocker (as I hoped I’d finish the socks and get pictures here) and stuff to work on patterns for the next book (swatches, notes, an array of needles). Clothes though, those I don’t bring many of! And I keep it to one purse and two pairs of shoes, which saves piles of space.
Love those socks!!!! Pattern available soon, I hope!
Not so much soon, but eventually!
