It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time
Well bummer. Remember when I said the hat obsession had returned? And I showed you the two yarns I wanted to use? Yes. Well. I seem to have fallen under the sway of Malabrigo’s lovely but occasionally sporadic colors. Somehow the yarn that looked all blue and green and gray with hints of yellow turned out to be yellow with bits of evil thrown in. Well no, I take it back. The yarn itself is lovely, it just wasn’t playing well with that gray and that stitch pattern. Not really at all.
So I did what any reasonable knitter would do and drove across town to the nearest yarn store with a good supply of Malabrigo (River Colors, for anyone in the area) and bought more yarn. The plan had initially been to get a different skein of Rios and use it with either the existing gray or the existing blue. Somehow I accidentally bought two skeins of Twist instead. One in Indiecita and one in Green Gray. I’m liking the impact of this stitch better at the larger gauge. I’m not too far along with the new version, but this should give the idea.
Now, is it wrong that I’m seriously considering only ripping the gray hat out to the band…that’s 8 rows of beautiful twisted ribbing, and I’m pretty sure I can find a use for that in some other project if it just hangs out in the stash closet long enough.
Rip to the band, you must. Strike, inspiration will.
-pretty sure Yoda would have said that if he’d thought of it.
So can Yoda use the force to knit…because I’m thinking that would help with the sore wrists…
I had never seen twisted ribbing before, I love it! Is it more stretching, less? Any different? So, so pretty.
It’s just k1tbl, p1tbl. It’s a bit firmer, not quite as stretchy, but I find it looks a bit more tidy. Looks great if you start off with the Italian cast on too!
“Stretchy” not stretching!
[Too much Christmas knitting. Blush]
bummer about the sore wrists. hopefully you’re taking little breaks periodically- maybe every half hour? (from the person who sometimes has to set a timer to make sure she doesn’t knit without breaks-my other trick is to watch 40 mins. shows on Netflix and take breaks between each episode). Hopefully the wrists are feeling well today!
Oh, I’ve had dodgy wrists long before I’ve been knitting, I know how to take care of them! Not that I always manage to do the right thing mind you…sometimes the ‘one more row’ thing gets me!
Is there a video you can recommend for the italian cast on? Just can’t wrap my mind (or my yarn!) around it.
This is very close to how I do it. The exception though is that I DO start with a slip knot, and I have that slip knot be my first stitch (a purl), and the first one created by the needle waggling dance shown in the video is then a knit. I also don’t mess with the slipping for the first two rows after the cast on though, I just launch right into the ribbing.
