Chatter
Did you guys want to hear me natter on at length about Book the Second? I’ll warn you, I talk fast. But if you’re not put off by the speed of my prattle, there’s a wee interview over on this week’s Knit Pick’s podcast.
And, in totally unrelated news, I seem to have beaten InDesign into submission. I feel like I’m actually making progress. Of course there’s still plenty to learn, but at least I feel like I’m getting the hang of it instead of simply flailing and swearing. There’s hope for me yet.
I had to take an intro to photoshop/indesign/illustrator last y ear for school and instead of a textbook we used Lynda.com tutorials, which were a bit wordy but quite helpful overall. I think I paid like 36 dollars for all the tutorials for each program, but I’m not sure if that would be true for people not in school. If you are still having lots of trouble with InDesign or want to be able to use the program most effectively they might be worth checking out though.
It’s funny you say that. I actually have been using them for the last several days and have found them very useful. The frustration is just that I was expecting to be able to jump in and use it within 5 minutes, and it’s actually more like 5 hours before I don’t feel like I’m drowning and 5 days before I feel even moderately functional.
InDesign does have a learning curve, without doubt (even for those of us who were quite good with PageMaker prior to the upgrade). But that feeling of “hey, it’s finally making a bit of sense,” is a herald of good things to come! It’s a fabulous program. I’m reasonably proficient with InDesign and Photoshop, but I can’t seem to get my mind (or fingers) around Illustrator, though I hear grand things about it as well.
Happy computing!
