This is Still Not a Hat
Published On: October 13, 2010

It is a mitt now though, so that’s progress.  Alas, it’s not the sock for Heather’s book.  It’s not that swirly sock over there pining for some attention on the sidebar.  It’s not even the hat it was supposed to be.  What can I say, I am fickle.

And while it’s not any of the knitting I should be doing, it has been educational.  I’ve learned a few things.  First, knitting on the bigger yarn is wicked wicked fast.  Second, mistakes show more on bigger yarn.  Third, while the big yarn is fun, I’m not abandoning the sock-weight stuff any time soon.  I also seem to have finally found a double increase and a double decrease I like.  They both appear to be symmetric and tidy and generally satisfying my overly picky nature.  Now, the trick will be to see if I can remember what the heck I did and somehow do it again.  You can see them on the little swirly bit on the thumb.  Please do not critique my manicure.  I do not have time to paint my nails to match my knitting.

On a totally unrelated note, do you want to help someone else with a new book?  A new sock book?  If you knit socks and have a few minutes, here’s a little survey about socks, sizing, and feet in general.  If you have a minute to fill it out, I and the other folks at Cooperative Press would appreciate it.
