Gramercy
As I explained once before, I started designing socks mostly through an (oh so fetching) combination of laziness, bossiness, and inability to follow directions. I kept it up because knitters seem to be disproportionately awesome and kept making me feel good. Designing has turned into an important part of my life and has let me do all sorts of things I never thought I’d do. I’ve met marvelous people, gone off on exciting trips, and am almost done with my first book. How cool is that? I mean really, who would have ever thought knitting socks would turn into all that?
So I want to be sure to say thank you. Thank you to the people who say nice things about my socks on ravelry, thank you to the people who read this site (especially those of you who aren’t even knitters, though I can’t quite figure out why you’d bother without some wooly leanings), thank you to the people who test my patterns and catch all my silly mistakes, thank you to my intrepid sample knitters (without whom the book wouldn’t be possible), thank you to the people who buy my patterns, and thank you to the people who knit my socks. This really is a team effort, and without your encouragement and support, I’d have wandered off to my next hobby long ago.
So to serve as a little demonstration of my thanks, I’m making the pattern for Gramercy available for free. Enjoy it!
And to make it even better for one of you, I’ve got yarn to give away! These are made in Handwerks Sock Plus 8 in London Fog. I love this yarn. It’s an 8 ply yarn with amazing stitch definition. It’s just a tiny bit more substantial than most sock yarns, but still thin enough to fit easily in shoes. The colors are gorgeous, and Laura is just wonderful to work with. One lucky reader will win enough yarn to make the socks. To enter, just go over to the Handwerks site, find your favorite color, come back here, and leave a comment letting me know what it is. I’ll leave comments open trough the weekend, and email the luck winner early next week (be sure you use a working email address, I promise not to use it for anything other than to contact the winner).
Thank you for the sock pattern! It is absolutely lovely! And what a nice gesture on your part to make it available to us! I think it would look very pretty in Sock Plus 8 “Desert Rose”!
Beautiful socks. I love your sock patterns. The yarn looks wonderful and her colors are terrific. I am torn between the London Fog and Smoke.
Hunter, another lovely pattern! I really like the Brick colorway with Smoke coming in as a close second.
Pick?? Well, there’s London Fog and Berry Pie and Pacific View and Desert Rose and Nandina and Monterey Cypress and Turquiose Inlay and… Pick?
That’s not much easier than picking my favorite of your patterns. Thank you you for the newest design…so lovely.
Yay! what a great pattern! I’m definitely going to knit some of these soon, they’re lovely and airy, which is good because we’re just coming into spring/summer over here in australia 🙂 kudos to you on the book, it sounds very interesting.
My fav sock plus 8 colour is: Nandina. Such lovely oranges and reds.
good job hunter 🙂
What a beautiful pattern – how generous! I love the Berry Pie color, but London Fog is quite beautiful.
That is a wonderful sock pattern. I like the original color – London Fog.
What a gorgeous pattern! thank you for sharing it.
I love love love the Milkweed colorway.
I love most of them, but Seacliffe is the one that speaks to me atm. It’s a nice calming colour which is important to me atm.
Sewsable on Rav
Thank you for the pattern and for the opportunity/chance to win some lovely yarn. I always have preferred pinks/purples – I was not surprised that I like the colorway Desert Rose. Thanks, again!
Such a delightfully lacy pattern! And I’m particularly fond of extra-squishy socks, so love knitting with the heavier yarns. My favorite colorway? Berry Pie for sure. I usually go for blues, but Berry Pie just leaves me drooling for the fabulous pie I had this summer on vacation. So Berry Pie it is!
Love the pattern. It will be for DD, so Berry Pie would be fabulous.
Now, the question is, do I knit them now, or wait til Hunter month on SKA? Of course, if I had SocksPlus 8 in Wine Country (who could resist!), I could make my decision much more quickly… 😉
Ooh, the Nandina colorway is beautiful! Lovely sock pattern and thank you for the gift of making it free.
What a beautiful pattern! I love Sock Plus 8 Smoke colorway.
Hunter,
Yet another awesome sock pattern with a delightfully esoteric name – I love your word games! I would have to choose Paprika as my fave Sock+8 color – I married a Hungarian, and I swear he has paprika in his blood, so I might as well have it on my feet 🙂
Hi Hunter, I have only knit socks toe-up so far but I like this pattern so much I am going to give them a go, thank you so much for making it free too! I have admired many of your sock patterns – well done for being so inventive with the ‘simple sock’. I love all the colours of the yarn but think the Jasper looks like super fun for socks
Pacific View for me! Love the pattern!
thanks for the free pattern, and looking forward to the book!
I think my favorite color of the Sock Plus 8 would be London Fog, but they’re all lovely.
I love the criss-cross laciness of your pattern. Berry pie is gorgeous. I am working on my third pair of Handwerks yarn socks and I agree it is a treat to knit with. I made a scarf out of her dk weight that was dreamy too.
Thank you so much for the lovely pattern!! I love lace socks! Handwerks yarn is also scrumptious…I think my favorite colorway in that yarn is paprika!
I am so going to make these knee highs. That lacy pattern is just begging to be stockings! One can never have too many free sock patterns, merci for that. Though, I’m torn between Smoke and Turquoise Inlay for colors…
Aren’t you good to us? Paprika sings, but Pacific View is lovely. Choices, choices.
Ooh – fab socks and pattern 😀
Am in the middle of an orange/yellow/copper phase at the moment so Nandina is wonderful!
Love the pattern. Thank you! I’m also a fan of the Pacific View colorway. Such a deep blue.
